June 30, 2008: Heat and hills did not get Claudia Colita down as she placed second at the Seafair Marathon in Washington State with a finishing time of 2:51:52.
First place winner Wendy Terris of Milwaukie, Oregon crossed the line in 2:50:55. The two women ran together for the first 24 miles, and then Terris pulled ahead making her move. The course itself was a challenge with all the hills and in the second half, the hills made for an even greater challenge, as the body is already significantly fatigued from the previous miles.
The marathon and half marathon had a large number of participants with 5,000 runners. Among all these runners, Claudia ran well. Claudia is still learning the nature of the marathon and how to pace herself themselves throughout the 26.2 miles.
Although this was not Claudia’s fastest marathon, it was still a solid performance. Fortunately for Claudia, she has managed to stay healthy and injury free as she is focusing on the longer distance races. Only two months ago, Colita raced the Nashville Country Music Marathon in April and finished in 2:46:05. Much of her training is done in her home country, Romania where she intensely trains.
Claudia is apart of an elite team, Team Foot Solutions that is based out of Marietta, GA, but has an international presence. The goal of the team is to find solutions to keep their bodies in top condition without being victims to injury. As the runners come from all around the globe, they all have one main objective that will allow them to continue striving to win and that is a healthy body. For these athletes, proper footwear is a major concern.
