July 22, 2008-(Jacksonville,FL)— 26.2 with Donna, The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer, is announcing a kickoff event for marathon and half-marathon training. Training sessions will begin on Saturday July 26th at 7:00a.m. at the Riverside YMCA. 450 people are expected to attend this event, including avid marathon runners and novice participants.
The event kicks off training for next year’s National Breast Cancer Marathon and half-marathon, taking place on February 15, 2009 and beginning near the Mayo Clinic campus in Jacksonville. This Saturday will also introduce The 2009 National Breast Cancer Marathon merchandise. In 2008, more than 7,000 runners participated in the marathon, raising over $800,000.
Registration is now open for the 2009 Marathon and Half-Marathon. 100% of registration fees and funds raised will go to Breast Cancer Research efforts at Mayo Clinic or to women living with breast cancer, through The Donna Hicken Foundation.
