Next Sunday the 2008 edition of the Monaco Ironman 70.3 will take place. This long distance triathlon consists of 1.9km of swimming, 90km of cycling and 21.1km of running. At the heart of this international competition, which includes more than 1100 triathletes among them World Champion Chris Mc Cormack, is more than 8 hours of non-stop animations which are scheduled to take place in Larvotto and the hinterland with a DJ, huge screens and announcers!
At 7h00, a shudder will go through the crowd who are gathered on the neighborhoods of the Plage du Larvotto. Indeed, the start will be given and more than 1100 triathletes will dash into the Mediterranean. The best will complete the race around 4h15 and the last Finisher will do so in 8h30. At 7h15, it will be the turn of the Relay Challenge Teams to begin the competition. The swimmer of every team will dive in for the 1.9km swim before handing over to the cyclist.
At about 7h25, the first athlete will enter the transition area and will leave for the 90km’s of cycling in the hinterland. The municipalities crossed by the cyclists are going to vibrate at the rate of Monaco Ironman 70.3 all day long. Some hot spots are particularly interesting. La Turbie, le Mont des Mules, le Col de Guerre, le Col du Cailasson, la Pointe de Contes, La Trinité et Laguet Sanctuaire are places known for their panoramas and easy and fast accesses.
From 10h00, the first athlete will finish the cycling and will begin his half-marathon, followed 20 minutes later, by the first woman. It will be the moment to motivate them throughout four and a half hours which includes the famous Formula 1 tunnel and the Port Hercule. They are going to count on you to help them draw the strength that will get them across the Finish Line… The winner will arrive at about 11h10 and the first woman at about 11h40. Free access stand will be arranged around this famous Finish Line and will allow you to celebrate the arrival of the heroes! Finally, and to finish the day as well as it began, at 15h30, thousands of spectators will celebrate the arrival of the last Finisher, and at 15h45, the arrival of the last Relay Challenge Finisher.
At the heart of this 2008 edition of the Monaco Ironman 70.3, the Expo Village will open its doors from 9h00 through to 19h00 from Friday, on the Esplanade du Larvotto, with exhibitors of national and international fame who present high-quality products, such as wetsuits, bicycles, sneakers and running or energy products. You may even be lucky enough to meet an Ironman star there!
