COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The USA Triathlon Board of Directors elected four of its members to officer seats at the first board meeting of 2016, held on Jan. 16 in conjunction with the USA Triathlon Race Director Symposium weekend.
Barry Siff (Tucson, Ariz.) was re-elected as Board of Directors President, extending his term that began in 2014. Also re-elected to officer positions were Vice President Mike Wien (Marietta, Ga., Southeast Region) and Treasurer Kevin Haas (Berkeley, Calif., Southwest Region), both of whom were first elected as board officers in 2014. Staci Brode (Dallas, Texas, South Midwest Region), who joined the board last January, was elected Secretary. All officers were elected to a two-year term.
Siff represents the Rocky Mountain, Pacific Northwest and Midwest Regions, and has been involved in the triathlon community for nearly 30 years - first as a competitor, then as a race director and coach. Siff has been a member of the ITU Executive Board since 2014, and also represents the U.S. on the CAMTRI (American Triathlon Confederation) Executive Board. He is also a USA Triathlon Level II Certified Race Director and a Level I Certified Coach.
"I remain extremely honored and excited to continue in the position of President of USA Triathlon, and know that my fellow officers feel the same way," Siff said. "We, along with our entire Board of Directors, are fully committed to providing the leadership and direction toward USA Triathlon's mission of growing and inspiring the triathlon community."
In addition to representing the USA Triathlon Board of Directors since 2014, Wien brings more than 40 years of marketing, sales and branding experience to the board. As an athlete, he is a three-time member of Team USA (2007, 2008, 2015). Wien is a professional speaker and consultant as well as an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at Georgia State University.
Haas has been a member of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors since 2013. He previously served as the Collegiate Committee Chair, Conference Commissioner for the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference and President for the UC-Berkeley Triathlon Team. Haas holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UC-Berkeley and works as a software engineer at Counsyl Inc., a genomics start-up.
Brode is an industry-recognized triathlon coach and race director since 2004. A USA Triathlon Level II Certified Race Director, Brode is the President of Playtri, overseeing race production for more than 25 events as well as overall operations of the company, which also includes retail stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Through Playtri Brode is also involved with coaching and group training programs, youth programs and triathlon camps.
As mandated by USA Triathlon Bylaws, the officer seats - President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer - are elected by the members of the Board of Directors with the vote taking place at the first meeting of the year following a general election.
