Athletics: Pro Football Hall Of Fame Marathon & Gold Jacket 5K Slated For April

Race Weekend To Feature Health & Wellness Expo; Legendary Running Back Marcus Allen At Finish Line Of 5K Race

CANTON, OHIO - The 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon will be held on Sunday, April 24 and cap a great race weekend in Canton. Now in its third year, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon is growing in reputation and known for its fine course, serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and includes unique course entertainment and special medals and blankets given to all finishers.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, April 22, 2016 with a Health & Wellness Expo at the Hall of Fame followed by the start of the 2016 Gold Jacket 5k race series on Saturday, April 23.

The Expo is open to the public and provides an opportunity to learn about the best in running related services and products and meet many community partners. The Health & Wellness Expo hours are from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday and from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday.

On Saturday at 8 am, runners can participate in the first race of this year’s Gold Jacket 5K series. Runners crossing the finish line will be greeted with a “high five” from Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen. The Gold Jacket 5k series will continue in a number of NFL cities this summer and culminate with the National Championship race in Canton on September 10. All finishers will also receive a finisher medal that is a tennis-ball sized championship ring. In addition, a special Kids Mini-Marathon will be held at 2 pm that day.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon, along with the Half Marathon, and Five-Person Team Relay starts at 7 am on Sunday. The 26.2-mile course is themed in football and traditionally is lined with great community support. All finishers will receive a specially designed finisher medal and a fleece blanket. Runners also receive free admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on race day.
