Famed Columbus Day Road Race is a Magnet for Elites and Novice Runners Alike
Boston, MA- This Columbus Day, more than 7,000 women will come together to race in the 40th anniversary of the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women. A celebration of women’s health and fitness, the race welcomes participants of all ages and abilities including elite athletes, wheelchair and hand cycle racers, recreational runners and walkers alike.
As the official USATF 10K National Championship for women, this year’s Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women will feature twenty of the country’s most elite female runners.

"Just go out there and run or walk - but be out there and be healthy. The Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women is a ‘happening’ and there’s no other event quite like it. There are participants ranging in age from 8 to 80+; world class elite runners and women who have only recently made a commitment to their health; and women of all abilities," said Dusty Rhodes, CEO of Conventures, Inc., race founder and organizer. Rhodes knew from it’s inception that the race had struck a chord with women aiming to improve their health and well being when more than 2,200 showed up, smashing the expected field of 200.
Starting Line 1977
Since 1977, the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women is a signature Boston event, welcoming runners from across the country to participate. This year 18 women will run for the fortieth time. Local television personality Jenny Johnson joins the long time voice of the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women Sharon Barbano as Master of Ceremonies.
In addition to the race, the Sports & Fitness Expo, on the Boston Common, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer a variety of activities focused on supporting health and wellness. Browse new fitness clothing and accessories, sample healthy foods and enjoy fitness demonstrations and many other tools used to encourage people to take part in an active and healthy lifestyle.
The race will kick-off at 10:50am on the corner of Charles and Beacon Street with a warm-up by Kelly Brabants, one of Boston’s most popular fitness instructors. The race will officially start at noon. For the younger runners, there will be a free 1K for Kids (recommended for children ages 10 and under) starting at 10:30 a.m.
