The Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon is returning to the heart of the Nonstop City - bigger and better than ever before. On February 24, 2017, 40,000 runners will participate in Israelís biggest sporting event of the year, racing to finish one of six urban routes: the Marathon (42.195 km), the Half Marathon (21 km), a 10k Race, a 5k Race, a handcycle race for athletes with special needs, and two mini-marathon courses (420m and 1k) for children.
1,500 runners from around the world are arriving in Tel Aviv to take part in the Tel Aviv Marathon, in addition to a large delegation of international elite runners attempting to break the Tel Aviv Marathon record, set last year by William Kiprono Yagon from Kenya at 2:10:30. Any runner who breaks the marathon record with a result of under 2:07:59 will receive $40,000.
This year, the Tel Aviv Marathon takes participants on a stunning, 42km route that winds its way through the beating heart of the city: runners start at the Tel Aviv Convention Center in northern Tel Aviv, then follow the route through the cityís most celebrated neighborhoods, including Sarona Market, Rabin Square, and along the white sandy beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. The route also highlights Tel Avivís storied past, taking runners through Old Jaffa, one of the most ancient port cities in the world. 150,000 people are expected to cheer the runners this year.
Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo: "The City of Tel Aviv-Yafo is proud of the significant increase in the number of runners who come to participate in the marathon this year. The Tel Aviv Marathon stands in one line with the great marathons in the world. Good luck to all the runners, and Iíll see you at the starting line!"
