Friday, April 14, marks the 15th anniversary of what has been called by some "The Greatest Marathon," the 2002 Flora London Marathon. In that race, Paula Radcliffe made her marathon debut in a world debut and all-women's record of 2:18:56, while Khalid Khannouchi came from the back of the pack to set a men's world record (and still-standing USA record) of 2:05:38, beating track stars Paul Tergat and Haile Gebrselassie (the latter was making his marathon debut). Although your editor attended the race, he didn't have time to write the wrap story because he had to catch a flight immediately after the finish to make it to Boston because the Boston Marathon was held the next day.
