Athletics: Women's Track Hosts Arkansas Invitational on Friday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas Razorback women's track and field will open the 2009 indoor season with the hosting of the Arkansas Invitational. Kansas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Tulsa will be competing with the Hogs at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday.

Field events will begin at 12 p.m., running events at 3:30 p.m. and running finals at 5:30 p.m. Live results can be found at A complete meet recap will be available shortly after the final event.

In the 2009 preseason poll, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association rank Texas A&M, LSU and Michigan in the top three of its preseason poll, released Jan. 8. Arkansas, seated No. 11, is one of seven SEC schools listed in the poll.

Friday's meet will mark the start of head coach Lance Harter's 19th season with Arkansas. Harter, with assistant coaches Rolando Greene and Bryan Compton, welcome back five All-Americans and 21 letterwinners for the 2009 season. Joining the squad will be 13 newcomers and redshirt freshmen.

Expected to make their Arkansas debuts this weekend are Courtney Blair (200M), Brittany Hyter (400M, 60M Hurdles), Whitney Jones (60M, 200M, long jump), Samantha Learch (800M) and Tina Sutej (pole vault).

Similar to past seasons, Arkansas will host a bevy of home meets at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Arkansas Invitational, Razorback Invitational, Tyson Invitational and Arkansas Last Chance are on the 2009 slate.

New to the 2009 season will be traveling for the NCAA Indoor Championships. For the past eight seasons, the Razorbacks have hosted the final event of the collegiate indoor season. This year, Texas A&M, in its new facility, will host the event.
