ST. LOUIS - (January 8, 2009) - GO! St. Louis, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that specializes in presenting fitness events and programs for the region on a year-round basis, has announced that Jared Fogle, long-time SUBWAY spokesman, will be a special guest at the 9th GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend. Jared will appear on Saturday, April 18 at 9:00am in Forest Park as part of SUBWAY'S support of the family day activities and the presenting sponsor of the children's fun runs. In addition, he will be a guest speaker at the Pasta Party at 5:30pm on Saturday evening.
"Jared has become a true health and fitness ambassador to thousands of individuals across the world," said Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis president. "I'm excited that he has recognized the quality and importance of our event to the community as something he wants to endorse through an appearance. In addition, I applaud the commitment from SUBWAY to support the family day activities, including the children's fun runs, and their overall mission of promoting healthy and fresh nutrition and fitness," she continued.
Fresh off of his year-long Tour de Pants, Jared is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his 245-pound weight loss, achieved from eating SUBWAY sandwiches and working out. He has since appeared in several commercials for SUBWAY and has traveled the world, speaking on healthy eating and fitness. He also has established the Jared Foundation, which educates children and parents about the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise.
The fun runs feature four different races for children under two-years-old to 10-years-old. Children's Events include:
Diaper Dash - Open to children under two-years old
50 Yard Dash - Open to children 2-4 years-old
100 Yard Dash - Open to children 5-6 years-old
˝ Mile - Open to children 7-10 years-old
All events will be held in Forest Park, at Cricket & Lindell Fields (near the Visitor's Center).
The GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend is Missouri's largest competitive running event, featuring races for all ages and fitness levels. The event started in 2000 with 2,500 participants and has increased to more than 18,000 in 2008. The Fitness Weekend features a marathon (26.2 miles), half-marathon (13. 1 miles) - presented by National City, Marathon Relay - presented by Lockton Companies, 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles) - presented by YMCA of Greater St. Louis, GO! St. Louis Read, Right and Run Marathon - presented by Centene Corporation, Children's Fun Runs - presented by SUBWAY and a Mature Mile.
