2009 series opens in Richmond, Virginia and launches signature races in Nashville, Detroit, San Diego and Phoenix
SAN DIEGO - Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2009, the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series has announced its event dates for the year. The 2009 schedule, which will kick off with an event in Richmond, VA in May, will also include four new events in Nashville, Detroit, San Diego and Phoenix. Muddy Buddy sold out eight of its nine events in 2008, and expects a record year in repeat cities as well as successful debuts in the four new markets.
The series, which hosts between 900 to 1,400 teams of two at each event, is known for its unique six- to seven-mile courses that require participants to 'leapfrog' between biking and running as they traverse trails and obstacles. The course ends with a 60-foot-long mud pit, which contestants crawl through together before crossing the finish line. Registration for all events in the 2009 Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series is currently open at: MuddyBuddy.com
Kids between the ages of 4 and 12 can join in the fun with the adults, as a part of the Paul Mitchell Mini Muddy Buddy. At each event, kids can sign up to complete a short obstacle course and slither through the same mud pit as the adults. Five dollars of each registration fee for the Mini Muddy Buddy benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
"These events are a great way for the whole family to get out and enjoy an exciting, unique event," said Bob Babbitt, founder of the Muddy Buddy series. "Some participants even dress up in costume - the courses are appropriate for any ability level, and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for anyone looking to have a great time and get muddy!"
The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Muddy Buddy Challenge, presented by Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned, provides an easy way for able-bodied Muddy Buddy participants to help people with physical challenges. Funds raised through the CAF Muddy Buddy Challenge help purchase the adaptive athletic equipment and support necessary for challenged athletes to create an active lifestyle that includes fitness and competitive athletics. Land Rover, one of the event's longtime sponsors, aided the cause for the 2008 series by donating $9,000.
