Athletics: Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon To Commemorate A Dozen Years Running

Training Programs Underway, Entry Fee Increases After Jan. 31st

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (January 28, 2009) – On Sunday, May 31, 2009, the original Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon will once again hit the streets of San Diego. The 12th annual event, known as a 26.2-mile block party, features a live band at every mile along the course, thousands of cheerleaders, themed water stations and a post-race concert.

January is the time to set training plans and begin preparing for San Diego’s most entertaining fitness experience. For runners and walkers of all ability levels, race weekend offers a unique opportunity for both locals and out-of-towners to take an active vacation, accomplish personal goals or team up with friends and family to raise money for charity.

“Running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is all about having a good time,” said Kari Logan, Event Manager. “Completing a marathon is a major lifetime achievement. Across the country, training programs are ramping up for the 2009 running season. An organized training program provides an opportunity to meet new people and prepare for the race.”

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) is the official charity of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. TNT offers runners and walkers professional training, support, travel and accommodations for the event in exchange for fundraising efforts, which help make a difference in the lives of more than 785,000 Americans living with blood cancers. Over the past 11 years, TNT has raised $134.6 million (net) at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

“We are also excited to officially announce that, for the first time, we will provide Sugoi tech tees to every registered participant,” added Logan. “The New Year is here, and training for any marathon is one way to conquer new fitness goals. Step one is to register.”

Finishing a marathon is a huge accomplishment and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon’s miles of breathtaking scenery, soulful entertainment and enthusiastic on-course support have made it a favorite for runners of all abilities. Race participants are encouraged take advantage of the lowest entry price by registering online before January 31st.
