Athletics: Razorback Rick Elliott Shines in 3K at NBCI

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Day one of competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at New York’s Armory Track Center has concluded for Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field.

Freshman Rick Elliott shined in the 3,000 meters. Running the event for the first time as a collegian, Elliott won his heat and placed sixth in the field of 55. He clocked a time of 8:21.81.

Arkansas had four runners in the heats of the 400 meters. Sophomore Chris Bilbrew led the Hogs with a 19th-place finish and a time of 48.25, just of his PR of 48.20. Freshman Ben Skidmore ran a 48.70, won his heat and finished 33rd. Freshman Travis Nollsch clocked a 48.78 for a 37th-place finish. Freshman Jake Stephens clocked a 48.86, won his heat and finished 42nd.

In the 60-meter hurdles, three Razorbacks competed in the prelims. Senior Nkosinza Balumbu lead the way with a 21st-place finish and a time of 8.21. Freshman Andrew Pennington ran an 8.53 to finish 58th and sophomore transfer Terry Prentice clocked an 8.61 and finished 67th.

Freshman Nate Durham finished sixth in the field of 16 in the high jump. He cleared 6-8. Sophomore Michael Chinchar finished 15th of the 40 runners in the 1,000-meter run. He clocked a time of 2:29.09.

Arkansas will resume competition Saturday with the mile at 9:20 a.m. and the pole vault at 9:30 a.m. Complete results can be found at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
