BROCKVILLE – The 2009 Ontario Masters East Regional Track and Field Championships will be held on Saturday May 30 from 10am until 4pm at the Procter & Gamble Track and Field Facility at Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS). Participants can register online at brockvillesports.com.
The event is being organized by Brockville Sports in partnership with the Brockville Legion Track and Field Club and Ontario Masters Athletics.
This is the only regional Masters track and field championship in Canada. Last year, the event attracted 75 participants from as far away as Windsor, London, Burlington, Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Richmond Hill, Peterborough, Ottawa, Kingston, Cornwall, and Montreal.
With the 2009 event taking place 3 weeks before the Ontario Masters Track and Field Championships at the Toronto Track and Field Centre, it should attract more than 100 adults between 30 and 90 years of age. According to Doug Smith, President of Ontario Masters Athletics, “The timing is great this year. Three weeks gives me the right amount of time to recover from my steeplechase and to get ready to run a good race at the provincial championships on June 21.”
The events in 5 year age categories starting at 30-34 are:
Track - 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 2000m and 3000m steeplechase, 5000m racewalk
Field - high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin
Brockville area adults of all shapes, sizes and abilities interested in participating in this “fun for all and all for fun” regional event are encouraged to attend practice sessions on Mondays at 5:30pm for 8 weeks starting on April 6 at TISS. There will be a $50 fee to cover insurance costs.
