Triathlon: IRONMAN France - Nice destination of champions!

The Ironman France will take place on June, 28th 2009. Since February 11th registrations are closed. 2200 participants will be at the starting line of the Baie des Anges race for one of the most popular Ironman of the European circuit. Among them Jean Patrick Nazon, cyclist used to podiums, who will challenge the 3 disciplines.

At four months of starting the registrations are closed, the event will be held in sold-out for the second consecutive year. For its 5th edition, the Nice city race is a dream destination as ever, with 60 nationalities represented, rising this XXL triathlon among the major French -and French Riviera- sport events.

In 2008, a great champion had risen to the challenge of triathlon and he [Laurent Jalabert] had done a magnificent course with a great performance ... by bike of course! This year again a great cyclist will try to print his name in the race course. Jean Patrick Nazon (FRA), winner of the Champs-Elysées stage of the Tour de France, and yellow jersey a day in 2003, is decided to add the Ironman to his medal board. Red is therefore placed on the 180km bike leading competitors in the 1800m high for a technical and demanding course. Not forgetting that the triple Champion of the Race will be there to defend his tittles, as a fact, Marcel Zamora (ESP) will not only compete but race to improve his performances in each discipline each year.

The organizing team, leaded by Yves Cordier is preparing the 3 races (3.8km swim / 180km bike / 42.2km run) with all the enthusiasm that is known, gathering athletes, volunteers and public around the biggest sports show of the year, with the non stop 16 hours of free entertainment on Sunday, 28th of June, a festive weekend and the Ironman France Expo village open from Thursday, 25th to Monday, 29th of June from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Brand new too, because it is closer to the beating heart of the city, the Expo Village will be right near to the prestigious Place Massena, so the public can stroll, enjoy the daily entertainment, cross the athletes collecting their bibs and visit the booths dedicated to the sport but not only . The Ironman is going to blow minds on the city for 5 days but it is alive everywhere throughout the years with athletes who train across the planet preparing this day, the families that support them and the travels which are planned.

As always, age groups are the largest part of competitors at 99%. Women represent 8% of starters and 3 more nations represented are France, with 979 athletes, the United Kingdom (517 athletes) and Spain (273 athletes).

The kickoff of the unique Ironman French will now be given in 4 months!
