Meseret Defar will have her named penned again into the record books after tonight's brilliant 9:06.26 two-mile world best run at the aptly-named Meeting of World Record Holders in Prague.
Defar, the 2004 Olympic Games 5000m gold medalist, beat her own mark of 9:10.50 set at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games in January, 2008. Just 8 days ago she set a pending world indoor record for 5000m in Stockholm.
Finishing behind her were Tanzania's Zakia Mrisho Mohamed (9:32.75) and Poland's Lidia Chojecka (9:33.23). Both Mrisho and Chojecka established national bests for their respective nations.
The IAAF doesn't recognize world indoor records at two miles, so statisticians refer to it as a world "best."
