Triathlon: Best Of The US Welcomes Jerseyman Sprint

(St. Paul, MN – 3/3/09) Best of the US Management is pleased to welcome the Jerseyman Sprint Triathlon as the official 2009 Best of the US New Jersey Qualifier. The fastest amateur male and female New Jersey resident to finish at the 2nd edition of this May 9 event, will earn invitations to represent themselves and their home state at the Best of the US National Championship in Mission Viejo, California on September 27. The Jerseyman events (Sprint and Half Iron) are produced by the New Jersey Multisport Association, an ambitious young company dedicated to producing first-class events.

New Jersey’s athletes have been highly successful at BOUS Championship in years past. In fact, more medals—4-- have been earned by Ocean Staters in the first four years of this national competition than the athletes of any other state. Lawrenceville’s Chris Martin owns two of them, winning the inaugural BOUS Championship in 2005 and placing 3rd in 2006. Riverton’s Suzanne Huelster, recently named 2008 USAT Duathlete of the Year, placed 3rd in 2008 and teamed with 2008 USAT Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention David Slavinski (5th) of Point Park to win the Fastest State Team Competition.

“We’d love to see David and Suzanne attempt to defend their team title this year,” says Best of the US Executive Director Trudy Marshall, adding, “but they are not the only podium-worthy triathletes in New Jersey.” Others who can hold their own against the best in the country include Stephen Back, Christian Struck, Mike Gadzinski, Stephen Delmonte, Cherri Marcinko, Christine Kachinsky, Maijaleena Zucker, Elizabeth Wittmack and super-masters Doug Clark, who was named 2008 USAT Master of the Year, Pippa Michaels, Mike Llerandi, Mario Souza, Louise Nunan and Midge Kerr. Any male/female combination of the these athletes would ensure a formidable presence for New Jersey in Mission Veijo next September.
