March 3, 2009 (Tampa, FL) – Ironman is pleased to announce that the 2009 Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island, in its second year, will now serve as an official qualifying event for the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Given the sell-out rate of Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid and Eagleman Ironman 70.3, this now gives athletes in the region another opportunity to qualify. There will be 28 spots to this year’s World Championship. The event, taking place on July 12 in Providence, will also offer a $30,000 professional prize purse and 50 qualifying spots for the 2009 Foster Grant World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, FL.
There are a limited number of entries still available to the 2009 Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island. Registration and event details can be located at the race’s official Website, www.ironmanrhodeisland.com.
Additionally, this year’s Ironman 70.3 event in Boise will now offer entry into Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene. The two Idaho-based races have partnered allowing athletes an exclusive opportunity to gain entry into one of the most popular Ironman races in the world. Participants in the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Boise will be able to register for Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene immediately following the awards ceremony on June 13. Event registration will be open only to athletes participating in the 2009 event.
“Coeur d’Alene has built a strong relationship with the triathlon community, as athletes visit the city to train on the course and return to the event year after year,” said Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene Race Director, Andy Emberton. “We’re pleased to support Ironman 70.3 Boise as the community develops that same relationship with the sport.”
For those athletes interested in competing in Ironman 70.3 Boise, registration and event information are available through the race Website, www.ironmanboise.com. For all Ironman and Ironman 70.3 details, visit Ironman.com.
