Australia's Collis Birmingham and Britain's Andrew Baddeley finished 1-2 at today's Melbourne Track Classic in the 5000m, both scoring personal bests. Birmingham clocked 13:16.26, an IAAF World Championships "A" qualifier, to Baddeley's 13:20.99.
Jeff Riseley won a tactical men's 1500m in 3:40.29, and Sarah Jamieson won the women's 1500m in a tight duel with Kaila McKnight, 4:11.62 to 4:11.83. Lisa Corrigan finished fourth. Lachlan Renshaw won the men's 800m in 1:47.18.
Windy conditions made running difficult, and had a negative effect on the sprints. Jamaica's Assafa Powell ran 10.23 into a 1.5 m/s headwind to win the men's 100m.
