IRONMAN France-Nice: In the famous destination PRO battles are awaited between title holders and outsiders, determined to shine on the Baie des Anges.
Three times winner Marcel Zamora (ESP) and Martina Dogana (ITA) will be on the starting line on June, 28th. Marcel comes to defend his title for the fourth time (2006/2007/2008). He will have to face a French champion that he has already met four times here.
For another time he must take Herve Faure (FRA), double winner of Embrun and winner on the Promenade des Anglais in 2005 (Zamora finished second that year), into account. Faure's plan is to get back his title!
The three-time winner of IRONMAN Brazil and Vice Champion 2007 of the World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater Oscar Galindez (ARG) offers an impressive prize-winner list for a career that had begun 20 years ago. So an outstanding challenger will run for victory as well.
Francois Chabaud (FRA) came back to his highest level in 2008 and is vice ITU World Champion, vice champion of France, 4th in Port Elizabeth and 5th Roth. He displays great ambitions and has also the potential to go for victory.
Olivier Marceau (FRA / SWI) former World Champion Olympic Distance will make his first steps on the IRONMAN circuit (after IRONMAN South Africa in April) and for sure will look for a good rank on the French Riviera. On the starting line another serious outsider will show up: Simon Billeau (FRA). He signed an amazing 5th place at the IRONMAN Australia in December 2008, with a finish time of 8:20, which sets him up as a very serious participant for the leading places.
After the participation of Laurent Jalabert in 2008, another former PRO cyclist, Jean Patrick Nazon (FRA) will race the IRONMAN France. His performance on the bike circuit is obviously awaited with excitement.
Under the heat of the Riviera, the female match promises to be played too. While Martina Dogana (ITA) - title holder and record woman of the race -- will back for the 3rd time, Alexandra Louison (FRA), winner in 2007, signs her 4th participation in Nice City.
But the two champions will have to face an awesome rising star, who wins everything on her way. The New Zealander Gina Ferguson (NZL), current winner of IRONMAN New Zealand, has signed not less than five victories and four IRONMAN distance records since 2007.
A big race leads great champions; the motto has never been truer than this year. Under the sun of the French Riviera, on June 28th the show will go on!
