Athletics: Texas Relays Next for Arkansas' Men's Track

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.-- Arkansas Razorback men's track and field will continue the outdoor season with the 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The four-day event will be held Wed.-Sat., April 1-4, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

In Austin, Arkansas is scheduled to compete in the 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay, 4x1,500-meter relay, the sprint medley relay and the distance medley relay. With a relay-heavy schedule, the Razorbacks will lighten up on the individual races this weekend. Luke Laird and Kyle Komarek (javelin), Terry Prentice (decathlon), Chad Burnett and Spencer McCorkel (pole vault), Nkosinza Balumbu (long jump) and Tarik Batchelor (long and triple jump) are also expected to compete.

The Hogs have won 54 Texas Relays titles since the meet's inception in 1925. Arkansas was named the Most Outstanding team in 1987 while the following individuals were named Most Outstanding Athlete: Randy Stephens, 1982; Joe Falcon, 1988; Scott MacPherson, 2005 (Plano HS).

Friday night in Austin, the Hogs will be in the hunt for their 11th-straight title win in the 4x1,500-meter relay. Michael Chinchar, Rick Elliott, Alex McClary, Andy McClary, Duncan Phillips and Dorian Ulrey are all potential 4x1,500-meter relay legs. Arkansas has won 17 4x1,500-meter relay titles since the start of the event in 1925 with its first win in the event coming in 1951.

Sophomore Prentice will be the first Hog to compete at Texas Relays as the men's decathlon begins Wednesday at 12 p.m. Originally transferring to Arkansas as a hurdler, Prentice has shown promise in the multi-events and scored points for the Hogs in the heptathlon at the 2009 SEC Indoor Championships.
