Athletics: Arkansas' Bucknam Adds Two More for 2009-10

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.-- Arkansas Razorback men's track and field head coach Chris Bucknam announced the signing of two more student athletes for the 2009-10 season on Monday.

"We have two more great additions for next season," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "Raymond Higgs is an outstanding high jumper. He's a tough competitor with the potential to succeed in the high, long and triple jumps at the NCAA and SEC levels."

Raymond Higgs is a native of Freeport, Bahamas and currently attends Athens Christian School in Athens, Ga. He holds a high jump best of 7-3, a long jump best of 24-2 and a triple jump best of 49-0.25.

He was the Jamaican youth champion in the high jump in 2008. Higgs also competed in the high jump at the World Junior Championships in 2008. He finished eighth with a clearance of 6-11.75.

Cameron Efurd is a native of Rogers, Ark. and attends Rogers High School. Competing in the middle distance and distance events, he holds personal bests of 1:56 in the 800 meters, 4:14.6 in the 1,600 meters, 9:18 in 3,200 meters and 15:20 in the cross country 5K.

"Cameron Efurd has great range in the events he runs," Bucknam said. "He has the ability to be competitive in the middle distance and distance events. Adding him to our roster will really help our depth in those events."

Efurd was a member of four cross country state championship teams, two indoor track and field state championship teams and two outdoor track and field state championship teams. Individually, he was the 2008 Arkansas cross country state champion. He also holds six state titles in indoor and outdoor track and field.

At the 2009 Nike Indoor Nationals he finished eighth in the mile. Efurd was named the 2008 Arkansas Gatorade Cross Country Athlete of the year. His father, Carlton, was an Arkansas track and field letterman during the 1983-1984 seasons.

Arkansas men's track and field will compete next at the Sun Angel Classic, At Arizona State, Fri.-Sat., April 10-11. For more information, visit
