OTTAWA -- After nearly 15 years of service to the organization, Athletics Canada announced today that Jean-Guy Ouellette will not put his nomination forward in the upcoming quadrennial election for Chair of the Board of Directors.
The president of Athletics Canada from 1986 to 1991 and chairman of its board of directors since 2000, Jean-Guy has been instrumental in the success of several major sports events across Canada and has occupied numerous senior positions with various sports organizations, provincially, nationally and internationally.
A physical education graduate from the Université of Sherbrooke in 1971, Jean-Guy has dedicated his career to the world of sports, particularly the sport of athletics. He served as the associate administrative director of athletics during the Montreal Olympics (1975-1976). He returned to his alma mater to become head of sports activities and coordinator of the varsity program upon the opening of the sports centre in 1979, a position he held until 2001 when he was named special advisor to the University's rector.
"On behalf of Athletics Canada's membership, our branches and our partners, I wish Jean-Guy the very best in his future aspirations," said Joanne Mortimore, Chief Executive Officer. Mortimore adds, "As an instrumental member of the organization for decades, Jean-Guy has been a first class representative of Athletics Canada's mission, values and objectives on the provincial, national and international stages."
