35th edition also hosts USA 7 Mile Championships
BETTENDORF, Iowa - (April 8, 2009) - Officials with the Quad-City Times Bix 7 have announced plans and partners for the 2009 race at a press conference held at the Isle of Capri Hotel.
The 35th edition will be held on Saturday, July 25th in the streets of Davenport. People can sign up for the Bix 7 events through applications available throughout the Quad City area or through the event's official web site: www.Bix7.com.
Announcing that in conjunction with celebrating its 35th running, the Bix 7 race will be again hosting a USA Championship for seven miles. USA Track & Field (USATF) had previously awarded the national championships to the Bix 7. This is the second time that the Bix 7 has been selected to host the USA 7 Mile Championships. In 2002, Olympians Meb Keflezighi (32:36) and Colleen De Reuck (37:44) dominated in Davenport.
Also new to the Bix 7 this year will be the Chrono Track Timing System, featuring D-tags. This disposable timing device allows you to walk away after the finish without having your tag collected. A warm welcome was given to the Bix 7's newest gold medal sponsor, New Balance. Long-time Bix 7 Race Director, Ed Froehlich, celebrating his 30th year at the helm of the race, said he was thrilled to have New Balance as the new shoe and apparel sponsor.
Froehlich also added, "Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Bix 7 and hosting the American National Championships at the same time makes for a very exciting time at this year's event. We're encouraging everyone to join in the fun and excitement."
