Athletics: 2009 Vancouver Sun Run Registration Breaks 50,000 mark

(April 8, 2009) The Vancouver Sun Run is celebrating 25 years running of fun and fitness within the timeless beauty of spring in the Lower Mainland and over 50,000 eager participants have already signed up to be a part of this landmark year.

With 50,262 currently registered (as of 10am today) for April 19th’s big race…and counting…the Vancouver Sun Run presented by HSBC Bank Canada is proving, once again, that health and wellbeing is an important priority in many people’s lives.

“Breaking the 50,000 mark in these uncertain economic times with 11 days to go before the big run is inspirational. It shows that individuals and our communities place a high priority in investing in their health and fitness and we’re proud of the role the Sun Run plays in helping people achieve their wellness goals.” stated Jamie Pitblado, Vice President, Promotions and Community Investment for the Vancouver Sun.

There is still time to take part in the big show! Registrations are being accepted until the final registration deadline, Saturday, April 18.

Registration details:

  • Individuals can register by fax (604-689-9419) or online at www.sunrun.com until midnight Tuesday, April 14.
  • Register in person only April 17 - 18 at BC Place Stadium (777 Pacific Boulevard) at the Sun Run Fair also the location for race package pick-up.
    • The times of the Fair are:
    • Friday, April 17 – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Saturday, April 18 – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • There is no race day registration.
    • Registration Fees:
    • Individual 10K - $40.00
    • 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Run - $22.00 (Under 18 years) $27.00 (18 years or over)

(Adults or escorts must accompany the children in the Shaw Mini Sun Run – all adult escorts or parents must register. There is no fee for adult escorts or parents unless a T-shirt is requested.) All fees include a souvenir 100% cotton T-shirt featuring artwork by Vancouver artist, Tiko Kerr. Kids get a paint-your-own T-shirt and a box of paints.

The Vancouver Sun Run presented by HSBC Bank Canada is open to international elite competitors, recreational runners, joggers and walkers, wheelchair competitors, teams,schools, and children. The Vancouver Sun Run is the 2nd largest timed 10K in the world and the 3rd largest timed run of any distance in the world.

The 2009 Sun Run is Sunday, April 19, getting underway at 9 a.m. in downtown Vancouver. The 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Run starts at 8 a.m.
