Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey(R) Red Nose Children's Run Debuts at Edgewater Park Saturday, May 16, 2009
CLEVELAND (April 22, 2009)--Kids all over Northeast Ohio will don their favorite running shoes and a big red nose to participate in the premiere Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Red Nose Children's Run at Edgewater Park Saturday, May 16, 2009.
As part of the festivities surrounding the 32nd annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K, the Red Nose Children's Run will begin at 12:45 p.m. with a group warm-up and stretch lead by Kelly, a Ringling Bros. clown. The age-specific races begin immediately following the warm-up session, and include Kelly cheering on competitors to keep the children laughing and energized. Food, beverages, face painting and fun activities will also be provided for race participants.
Kids 12 and under are invited to participate in this annual event promoting health and fitness in a fun and active way. All registrants will receive a red clown nose, an official race t-shirt, a finisher's medal and a snack. The first 500 registrants also receive a free ticket voucher to attend Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey(R) presents ZING ZANG ZOOMSM Oct. 21-26, 2009 at Quicken Loans Arena. All other participants can take their race bib to the Quicken Loans Arena box office to receive a 50 percent discount toward the 7:30 p.m. performance Wednesday, Oct. 21 or Thursday, Oct. 22.
Children can register to participate in the Red Nose Children's Run at Edgewater Park (8701 Lakeshore Boulevard, NE in Cleveland) online at ClevelandMarathon.com until Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Race day registration is also available. Cost is $10 per child.
The Red Nose Children's Run will offer different lengths for children to run depending on their age group. Children ages three and under will participate in the 50 yard diaper dash; four- to six-year-olds will race 100 yards; seven- and eight-year-olds will sprint a quarter mile; nine- and ten-year-olds will bolt for a half mile; and 11- and 12-year-olds will complete a half mile as well.
Following the Red Nose Children's Run, Kelly the Ringling Bros. clown will visit the Health and Fitness Expo at 4:00 p.m. to share clown noses and greet children of all ages. Taking place at the Convention Center in downtown Cleveland, the Health and Fitness Expo will offer nearly 80 vendors, multiple workshops and a speaker's series featuring famous running legends. The Health and Fitness Expo is free of charge, open to the public and part of the 32nd annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K.
