Over 10,000 people entered the first French Riviera marathon in 2008 which might be a new world record. Runners' feedback was exceptional. All appreciated the glorious Riviera weather, the snowy mountains in the background and to be able to follow the coastal sea route for 92% of the time.
On November 8th, 2009 at 8am even more French and international participants are expected to line up on the "Promenade des Anglais" in Nice to run the famous marathon distance. The finishing line in front of the Palais des Festivals is a delightful reminder of the red carpet laid down for the movie stars during the annual Cannes festival taking place in May.
The French Riviera marathon requires impressive logistics as it passes through 7 towns. 1,300 volunteers, professional staff from Azur Sport Organisation and IMG as well as the event partners are all working to deliver another first class race. The Nice Cête d'Azur international airport allows easy access to the area and the railway stations facilitate toing and froing throughout the duration of the event.
60,000 spectators will also be able to make the most of the activities and the musical bands. They can encourage and support the courageous runners. In 2008, 88% of the runners were accompanied by friends and families to enjoy their stay on the Riviera.
