Inspirational runner, Evolve Sports to utilize technology developed in Silicon Valley for 2009 event
SAN JOSE, Calif. - (May 6, 2009) - Evolve Sports has announced a new partnership between the Silicon Valley Marathon® and Dean Karnazes, one of America's most prolific runners. The inaugural Dean Karnazes Silicon Valley Marathon (DKSVM) - set for Sunday, October 25, 2009 - will serve as a platform for many of the initiatives that Karnazes has championed over the years including the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle for all Americans. Currently, the event is the only road marathon in the South Bay, a region that is known for being one of the most health-conscious areas in the United States.
The 12th Silicon Valley Marathon expects thousands of participants and spectators alike descending upon the technology capital of the world to compete in one of the most popular running events on the West Coast.
The launch of the DKSVM aims to revolutionize the relationship between a marathon and the runners who participate in it. Utilizing technology that was heavily developed in the Silicon Valley, such as social networking, Karnazes' inspired "twitter" training, and extensive tracking of charitable donations, this race will be like no other. Karnazes and the Silicon Valley Marathon continue to share a similar passion for increasing the awareness of obesity in America, especially among our youth, and this event will serve as catalyst for turning the tide locally. With the assistance of Dean's official charity, Karno Kids, as well as the connections established with the Silicon Valley health sector, the community 5K will provide the Bay Area's youth an ideal opportunity to "Get up and Get out".
"I am both honored and excited to be affiliated with an event that shares many of the same attitudes and beliefs I have about healthy living and an active way of life," said Karnazes about the partnership.
Race director JT Service added, "It is my hope that by having Dean as the face of the Silicon Valley Marathon, we will be able reach an even greater audience of people who wish to change their lifestyle through the sport of running."
