(RRW) Athletics: Defar's 10,000M In Stockholm Not Her Debut

From David Monti © 2009 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Meseret Defar's 10,000m race in Stockholm last Saturday was not her debut at the distance, according to the Association of Road Racing Statistician's Ken Young. "I have Meseret Defar's 10,000m debut at the 1999 Ethiopian Champs (April, 1999)," Young reported in an e-mail message to Race Results Weekly. "She was 6th in 33:54.41 and was age 15 at the time. Hence, she did not debut this past weekend at Stockholm." In Stockholm, Defar clocked 31:07.34 over the 25-lap distance, an early world leader, and still her professional debut at the distance.
