Course designer Peter Reid: "True balance between three sports"
12 JUN 2009, Monte Carlo, Monaco/Andalucí a, Spain - TriStar200 Andalucí a is the brand new fun-focused triathlon event that kicks off a new era in triathlon history. On 12 September 2009, the inaugural triathlon over a total distance of 200km with a portion of eco-responsibility and benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation with each entry will throw new light on how triathlons can be organized.
Connecting the two provinces Cádiz and Huelva under the Andalusian sun, and benefiting from the strong support of Andalusia's Government, the race will start with a drafting cycle race in a peloton. After 169 competitive kilometers in the meandering Cádiz region, the participants will traverse the Guadalquivir river delta where it meets the Atlantic in a 1km swim. Exiting the water, athletes will face a 30km run on the endless sandy beaches of the Doñana national park, which will be part of a sports event for the first time ever in history. Finishing on the popular summer resort Matalascañas, athletes will experience a new dimension of triathlon. Registration with a special offer for the first 300 entries opened today on www.tristar200andalucia.cc.
"TriStar has created a new and exciting race format for the sport of triathlon with a focus on participation", says Peter Reid, multiple Ironman World Champion. "I strongly believe the new format is a true balance between the three sports. The sport of triathlon is growing so fast yet new ideas are slow to keep up. TriStar has caught up to the demands and will become the leader in triathlon events. Furthermore, TriStar has assembled a crew that has a winning record in providing safe events."
TriStar200 Andalucía stands for a total distance of 200km of endurance sport focusing on eco-responsibility, sustainability and fun. The unique experience of running through the beautiful Doñana national park as a participant of this high quality sports event is a premiere in history. The tagline "Doñana Challenge" sums it all up in two words: sandy beaches, the Atlantic ocean, dunes, roasting sun, strong head winds -- you never know what kind of challenges you'll have to face, but a Challenge it will be.
TriStar200 Andalucía will start in Cádiz on 12 September at 7h00 in the morning. In a pre-start heat athletes will cycle along the city walls from the Plaza de España before lining up at the Plaza de La Constitución to start the drafting race. Biking through Cádiz, San Fernando, Chiclana, Medina-Sidonia, San José del Valle, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Rota and Chipiona, they will arrive in Sanlúcar de Barrameda for the transition to the swim. After crossing the Guadalquivir river in currents of fresh water and saltwater, the run in the Doñana national park might be the most challenging segment of the race. Physically -- and mentally -- the run between the Dunes and the Atlantic Ocean demands strong will to get to the Finishline.
TriStar200 Andalucía is organized by Star Productions SARL, a brand new sports events agency with headquarters in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The local team for the Andalusian event is pooled around the 2000 Olympic Triathlon participant in Sydney, José María Merchá n. "TriStar200 Andalucía is not only a race for athletes who are specialized on long distance races but also for cyclists, runners and duathletes who are ambitious to reach the next level of triathlon", says race director José María Merchán. The entire team supporting Merchán has experience in sports events management, and most of them are triathlon specialists.
Star Productions and their umbrella brand Star Events are professionally advised by a team of internationally highly recognized athletes. Peter Reid is the course designer for the TriStar triathlon series, while Vladimir Salnikov, four times Olympic gold medalist, committed himself to be the event designer for the StarMile open water swims. Course designers for the StarRun running events and StarTour Cycling events are to be announced shortly.
Registration for the inaugural TriStar200 Andalucía is now open. The first 300 entries will benefit from a special kick-off offer. Sign up today at www.tristar200andalucia.cc.
