July 6, 2009 - Aurora, Ontario. Professional triathlete Paolina Allan won the Peterborough ½ Ironman Triathlon this past Sunday. The race is part of the 2009 Subaru Ontario Triathlon Series. She did it in fine form, breaking her own course record and finishing up an impressive 10th overall in a time of 4:23:04.
Allan was a bit behind after the swim, but used her strength and speed on the bike and run to move into first place in the women’s race and stay there for good.
“It was a really good day for me”, said Allan. “Everything really came together for me in a longer race for the first time in a long time. I know this course well. The volunteers and the course support were amazing. This was the best that I have ever felt out there”, Allan added.
The Peterborough race, served as a final test and tune-up for Allan as she sets her sites on Ironman Lake Placid in Lake Placid, NY in three weeks time, where she hopes for a place on the podium and to qualify for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii this October. Allan has a great record in Ironman races in North America racing at the Elite level – she has never finished outside of the top 10. Last year, Allan was 22nd at the Ironman Triathlon World Championships and would like to move up the rankings this year.
“The training has been going really well. Part of the reason for the great race and feeling I had at Peterborough was that I have been able to put together a solid six months of training”, Allan concludes.
After winning the Victoria’s Duathlon in May, Allan is currently in first place in the Elite division of the Ontario Subaru Triathlon Series.
