OTTAWA - Perdita Felicien of Pickering, ON and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, ON advanced to the semi finals in the women's 100m hurdles today at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
Finishing with the fastest time in the heats Priscilla Lopes-Schliep qualified for the semi finals with a time of 12.56 seconds. Perdita Felicien qualified placing second in heat 5 with a time of 12.77 seconds. Angela Whyte of Edmonton, AB had a strong start running near the lead until clipping hurdle 8 and stumbling, causing her to lose ground and finish 5th in her heat.
In the men's 200m (round 2) Jared Connaughton of New Haven, PEI finished second in his heat but was later disqualified for a line violation. Sam Effah of Calgary, AB and Gavin Smellie of Etobicoke, ON finished 7th and 8th in their respective heats; Effah with a time of 20.97 and Smellie with 21.27 seconds.
