Athletics: Former Razorback Campbell-Brown Silver In 200M

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Former Razorback and school-record holder Veronica Campbell-Brown won her fourth World Championships medal (in an individual race) on Friday at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

Campbell-Brown, running in lane five, earned a runner-up finish to USA's Allyson Felix. Campbell-Brown clocked a time of 22.35 to Felix's 22.02. Felix made history by becoming the first woman ever to win three world 200-meter titles.

"I always run for the gold medal but I'm happy with silver," Campbell-Brown said. "Considering my circumstances this season, I'm fortunate to get a medal. I know I still have work to do. I have to concentrate on my races and execute harder. I'm looking forward to the relay. It's a team effort and hopefully we can all come together."

Christin Wurth-Thomas competed in the 1,500-meter semifinals on Friday. She clocked a time of 4:04.16 to finish fourth in her heat and automatically advance to Sunday's finals. Fellow Americans Shannon Rowbury and Anna Willard also advanced to the 1,500-meter finals.

"This race was about being safe and controlling it," Wurth-Thomas said. "I was excited today and the nerves were gone. It was fun. My goal was to make the final and now it's about relaxing in the final."

Team USA's men's 4x100-meter relay advanced to Saturday's finals. The quartet of Terrence Trammell, Michael Rodgers, Shawn Crawford and Darvis Patton won their heat with a time of 37.97. Tyson Gay will likely run the final on Saturday.
