OTTAWA - The 2009 International Association of Athletics Federation's (IAAF) 2009 Golden League Series comes to a close tomorrow with the sixth and final meet, the Memorial Van Damme held in honour of Ivo Van Damme, the top 800 metre runner in the history of Belgian athletics. Ivo died tragically in a car accident in late December of 1976. Van Damme won silver at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, setting a new Belgian record along the way.
Silver medalist at the 2009 World Championships in the 100 metre hurdles, Priscilla Lopes-Schliep will return to the Memorial Van Damme looking to better her 5th place from last year. Also in Brussels, Gary Reed of Victoria, BC will compete in the 800 metres, Reed just missed qualifying for the finals at the 2009 World Championships but is the 2007 World Championship Silver medalist and the 4th place finisher from the Beijing Olympic Games.

AC Mondo Top Performer of the Month
Priscilla Lopes-Schliep was named Athletics Canada's September Mondo Top Performer of the month following her silver medal performance at the 2009 World Championships. Lopes-Schliep has enjoyed another career year setting a personal best to go with her Worlds podium and is looking to establish a new Canadian record before the close of the season.
