This Sunday marks the third year of the Subaru Sooke Triathlon. The event, based in scenic Sooke features a stunningly beautiful oceanside bike and run course and will host more then 400 triathletes from Greater Victoria, the Vancouver Lower Mainland, and as far as France and New Zealand, setting a new attendance record.
This year the event will qualify 2 age group athletes from every age category in both the Olympic and Half Ironman distance events for one of 2 World Championships. Participants will qualify for the 2010 Olympic distance World Championships in Budapest Hungary, and for the Half Iron competitors, the 2010 Long Distance World Championships in Immenstadt, Germany.
Returning to race again are Canadians professionals Jasper Blake, Christine Fletcher, Kelly Guest, Lucy Smith, and Sara Gross. Fletcher, from Vancouver, is returning to try and better her 2nd place finish in 2008 and Blake is the defending champion of 2007. Many age group athletes will be racing for the first time while others use the race as training for the legendary Ironman Hawaii. Also, with it being one of the last races of the season, many athletes are taking its advantage to finish with a bang!
A press conference featuring these athletes will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 11th at the Sooke Harbour House.
