Statement from Skip Gilbert
- Chairman of the Association of Chief Executives for Sport (ACES)
- Chairman of the National Governing Body Council
- CEO of USA Triathlon
"On behalf of all of the NGBs within ACES and the Olympic Movement we are extremely disappointed that Chicago was not selected to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We commend the Chicago 2016 organizing committee for the time and effort they have committed to this endeavor. They worked tirelessly over the past several years and presented a venue plan that was second to none. While we are disappointed that the Games won't be returning to the United States, we do want to express our appreciation to the voting members of the IOC and the difficult decision they had to make. All four cities were deserving of this honor.
"Our congratulations go to Rio de Janeiro and we wish them luck in continuing their preparations over the next seven years. We can now turn our attention back to the field of play and supporting our athletes as they prepare for Vancouver in February, London in 2012, Sochi in 2014 and now Rio de Janeiro in 2016."
