Athletics: Mardi Gras Block Party Ready to Run, Rock 'n' Roll

Early Entry Deadline Approaches for February 28, 2010 Event

New Orleans, LA -- October 30, 2009 -- Halloween night marks the end of early entry registration for the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon & Half-Marathon on Sunday, February 28, 2010. Interested runners and walkers are encouraged to take advantage of the lowest entry price and solidify their place as one of more than 20,000 runners who will take part in the inaugural event.

"We're getting closer to the holidays and New Year, so now is the time to sign up to not only get the lower entry price, but also commit to getting and staying fit through the winter season," said Elizabeth O'Brien, Event Director. "As more and more plans for the event fall into place, we're excited to welcome runners and walkers, bands and supporters to the biggest party in running next February."

As participants and locals alike catch the Rock 'n' Roll fever, the event has issued a call for bands to play along both the full and half marathon courses. All types of music are accepted and encouraged, and applications must be submitted by November 31st. Interested bands can view submission requirements and download an application at mardi-gras.competitor.com/entertainment/bands.

The Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon & Half-Marathon will kick off event weekend with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27. All race participants must visit the Expo to pick up their race numbers and browse over 100 exhibitors featuring free samples, the latest in running gear and sports apparel, as well as interactive clinics.

The race will begin near Convention Center Boulevard at 7:00 am, just steps away from the Morial Convention center and within walking distance of downtown hotels. The 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses will run past many of the city's notable sites, tourist attractions and historic neighborhoods, with the finish line in City Park. The event will conclude with an afternoon concert featuring a headlining act.
