Columbia, SC (November 9, 2009) -- The USRA Half Marathon Series announced its opening event for its 2010 season in Columbia, SC with partnering sponsors and officials on hand. The Columbia Half Marathon will fill the void left by the previously successful "Carolina Marathon and 10K" which dropped off the calendar after hosting the US Women's Olympic Marathon Trials in both 2000 and 1996.
The "Coke Half Marathon","Michelob Ultra 5K" and 1 Mile Fun Runs will start and finish near the State Capitol utilizing parts of the Trials course starting in Columbia and going across the bridge and into neighboring Cayce and West Columbia.
Joining Winter Park, Florida based Reinke Sports Group, owners of the 15-city, nationwide tour, and Coke and Michelob Ultra as founding partners of the event include CBS affiliate WLXT-TV, B106 & 107.5 The Game radio, The State newspaper, Strictly Running and the USC Sports Medicine Clinic. The event will also be part of the popular "Palmetto Cup Grand Prix" Series. March 28 Lexington Half Marathon Announced
Lexington, KY (November 4, 2009) -- Premier Lexington Horse Farm "Fasig-Tipton" was the setting for a Press Conference to announce the inaugural Lexington Half Marathon March 28, 2010. Lexington first ever Half Marathon, will start and finish at Fasig-Tipton and run to the nearby Kentucky Horse Park where runners will run through the picturesque world renowned horse facility which will serve as the host site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
The Lexington Half Marathon will also serve as the third event of the season for the 15-city nationwide USRA Half Marathon Series which features Half Marathons in mid-to-smaller size markets that do not currently have a major, signature, destination Half Marathon. The response has been quite impressive as nearly 100 runners signed up within 72 hours of the press conference so organizers are projecting upwards of 3000 participants. Joining Florida-based USRA Series owner Reinke Sports Group and Fasig-Tipton as partners of the event include The Herald-Leader newspaper, WKYT-TV (CBS), Clear Chanel Radio, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington CVB, City of Lexington and the Kentucky Sports Authority under the Kentucky Tourism Commission. In addition to the premier Half Marathon, a 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held along with a Runner's Expo / Packet Pickup on Saturday. March 27.
