Here is a wrap-up of news items recently received in the Race Results Weekly office:

HERVIS PRAGUE HALF-MARATHON RECEIVES IAAF GOLD LABEL STATUS: Organizers of the Hervis Prague Half-Marathon announced last week that their event had achieved the IAAF Road Race Gold Label for 2010, the IAAF's highest rating for race quality and technical soundness. "It fills us with enormous pride to have received the coveted IAAF Gold Label for one of our races," said Carlo Capalbo, the president of PIM which oversees the half-marathon and three other events, including the Volkswagen Prague Marathon. "There is so much that goes on behind the scenes of a race and we are honoured that the IAAF has taken note, not only of the organisation of the Hervis Half Marathon itself, but also of the safety procedures, planning and logistics that comes with it." The next edition of the Hervis Prague Half-Marathon will take place on March 27, 2010.

2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD IN HELSINKI: In a unanimous decision, the European Athletics Council awarded Helsinki the 21st edition of the European Championships to be held in 2012. European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz said through a media release: "We are very pleased to confirm that Helsinki will be the hosts of the European Athletics Championships in 2012. Athletics is a hugely popular sport in Finland and today we have been assured that we can look forward to a fantastic event." The championships will be held over five days from June 27 through July 1, one month before the London Olympic Games (July 27 through August 12). Because of the two major championships occuring in such a short span of time, the European Championships will not hold marathon and race walking events.

RRM RUNNING INDUSTRY RESOURCE DIRECTORY READY FOR DISTRIBUTION: The Road Race Management Running Industry Resource Directory is ready for distribution. This printed desktop reference lists 1500 businesses, organizations, and running event directors in an easy to use format. The directory costs USD 70 for domestic orders (USD 60 for RRM members) or USD 85 for international orders (USD 75 for RRM members). More information is available at this link: http://www.rrm.com/rirdnew.rird.htm.

TEAM STRANDS ACCEPTING ATHLETE SPONSORSHIP PROPOSALS: Strands.com, an online training log and social networking site, is currently accepting proposals for athlete sponsorship for the 2010 calendar year. Interested athletes should submit a running resume with a one-page sponsorship proposal to teamstrands@strands.com by December 15, 2009.

MARATHON WINNER WAS INDEED 17 YEARS-OLD: The women's winner of Marathon des Alpes Maritimes Nice-Cannes held in France on November 9, was indeed 17 years-old, according to manager Hussein Makke who furnished a copy of her passport. Mohammed was born 10-Jun-1992. "She was a finalist in the 1500m Youth Championships this past summer in Italy and fell down in the finals," Makke explained in an e-mail. Also, the full name of the men's winner is "Hussen Adelo Roba."

MANCHESTER ROAD RACE TO COLLECT USED RUNNING SHOES: Organizers of the Manchester Road Race, scheduled for Thursday, November 26, in Manchester, Conn., announced that they will be partnering with Manchester’s Full Gospel Interdenominational Church in an effort to collect and recycle used running shoes. Runners and spectators are being urged to donate their used running shoes; slightly used shoes will be donated to the needy and older ones will be recycled. Separately, organizers announced that honorary race chairperson, Dick Beardsley, will make three public appearances in Manchester prior to the race. There's more information at www.manchesterroadrace.com.
