(Duluth, Minn.) Registration is now open for the 2010 Fitger's 5K Run & Walk
To sign up for the event, scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2010, runners and walkers should log on to www.GrandmasMarathon.com, YoungAthletesFoundation.com,. The Fitger's 5K registration process is conducted exclusively online.
The Fitger's 5K field will again be limited to the first 1,500 registrants, so runners and walkers interested in participating should register as early as possible. The 2009 race reached its entry limit three weeks prior to the event.
Duluth's Jeremy Polson (15 minutes, 29 seconds) and Amy Lyons (17:32), of Mounds View, Minn., were the top finishers at the 2009 race, which drew a record 1,561 registrants.
The race begins at 9 a.m. on East Superior Street in front of Fitger's and travels through downtown Duluth and Canal Park before finishing back at Fitger's.
The entry free is $25 plus processing fee with all net proceeds benefiting the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma's Marathon program that focuses on the promotion and development of youth athletics throughout Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Lake and St. Louis Counties. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $325,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.
