Emilie's Run - The Emilie Mondor Memorial 5K Race for Women - Canada's fastest women's 5K race is set for June 19, 2010 at the Aviation Museum in Ottawa, ON. Online registration is now available through Somersault Promotions at: Somersault.ca.
Last year Tara Quinn-Smith set a course record of 16:15. 7 eclipsing former record holder Nicole Stevenson's time of 16:29.7 set in 2006. 364 women completed the 5K, up from 290 in 2008. 33 women broke the 20:00 mark. 143 completed the Children's 12 and under 1K run. The Running Skirts Team of Firehiwot Gebreyesus, Josiane Aboungono and Aynadis Bedada won the team championship.
Over $7,000 in cash prizes was awarded to the top open, and masters runners and teams. New Balance merchandise was given to all age-group winners.
The race is sponsored by the Runner's Web (www.runnersweb.com, the Ottawa Citizen, Majic100, New Balance Ottawa, iRun Magazine, Gatorade, Goodlife Fitness Clubs, Bagel Bagel and Ottawa Outdoors Magazine and is organized by Somersault Promotions (www.somersault.ca).
The Canadian Aviation Museum site offers a run course that is flat and fast on the Eastern Parkway; the race start is on the Aviation Parkway Overpass at the Aviation Museum. The entre race course was resurfaced in the summer of 2009.
Why a women's only race?
By sponsoring a Ottawa women's only race, the RunnersWeb.com hopes to encourage new women runners to participate and to provide a stage for competitive women to display their talent.

Emilie's Run - The Emilie Mondor Memorial 5K Race for Women will be run on June 20th from the Aviation Museum in Ottawa. Emilie's
Run is a women's only 5K road race named after Emilie Mondor who was killed in a car accident in September of 2006. She was the
first Canadian woman to run under 15:00 for 5K and an Athens Olympian. She had moved to Ottawa to start training for the marathon
with the goal of going to the Beijing Olympics in that event.
