Athletics: Women Run the Cities Added to Twin Cities In Motion Family of Events

Race Founders MNCREW to Serve as Planning and Execution Partner

St. Paul, Minn. - April 4, 2017 - Twin Cities In Motion, the nonprofit organizer of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, has acquired Women Run the Cities from MNCREW, Minnesota Commercial Real Estate Women, the founders of the event.

In a unique partnership between the two organizations, MNCREW will continue its affiliation with the event it created in 2007 as planning and execution partners, while the event joins TCM’s year-round portfolio of running events in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

This year’s Twin Cities Orthopedics Women Run the Cities event -- which features 10 mile, 10K, and 5K races for women, plus a 1 mile for girls – will take place on Sunday, September 24. Online registration for the event launches on Tuesday, April 11 at WomenRunTheCitites.com.

"Twin Cities in Motion is thrilled to take on such a well-respected event in partnership with its founding organization." Twin Cities In Motion President Mike Logan said. "We view this event as a celebration of women’s empowerment and as a platform that could ultimately engage other areas of movement and experience."

Last year, nearly 4,000 women and girls participated in the event that was named one of the Five Best Races for Women by espnW in 2012. The event supports The Link, a nonprofit supporting at-risk youth in the Twin Cities, and CREW Network Foundation, the philanthropic arm of MNCREW’s national organization.

"Women Run the Cities has joyfully inspired thousands of women to get moving together and we are elated to have THE premier running event organization now lead Women Run the Cities and bring this inspiration to even more women and girls!" Women Run the Cities Founder and MNCREW Past President, Meghan Huber said.

The 2017 edition of the race will start and finish in Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, running on routes that follow the Mississippi riverfront.

"The Twin Cities In Motion team looks forward to managing this event and will continue to grow it during its second decade," Twin Cities In Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said. "Women runners are a major segment of the running market, and organizing an event around women’s and girls’ running and fitness is an exciting new opportunity for our organization."
