20,000 Chicago Area Runners Get Ready to Welcome Spring with Annual St. Patrick's Day Tradition
CHICAGO - The start of Chicago's spring running season will begin on Sunday, March 24 when the 40th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K kicks off at 8:30 a.m. in Grant Park. The classic road race is an annual tradition for runners looking to continue the St. Patrick?s Day celebration with a green infused 8K run and two-mile walk through the heart of downtown.
Former Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle champion Deena Kastor (2005 and 2009) will headline this year?s field along with her Mammoth Track Club teammates in the Deloitte Elite Club Competition. The 11th annual Deloitte Elite Club Competition will feature more than 40 teams from across the U.S. that will fight for the championship title and a $20,000 prize purse. The Kansas City Smoke will also be back on the men?s side to defend their title.
Following in the footsteps of the elite athletes at the front of the field will be 20,000 Chicago area runners, including Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle executive race director Carey Pinkowski. Pinkowski laced up his Nikes last year to run the 2018 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, raising $20,226 for the American Cancer Society. He has already doubled his impact this year by raising more than $46,000 on behalf of Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, After School Matters, Special Olympics Chicago and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
In addition to the festivities on Sunday, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle will host an inaugural one-mile event on Saturday, March 23 in Grant Park. The Mile will highlight Chicago?s diverse running community, welcoming everyone from the next generation of shufflers to local elites.
A two-day Packet Pick-up will take place at McCormick Place on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23. Packet Pick-up is free and open to the public.

Long recognized as an annual rite of spring, a celebration of St. Patrick?s Day and the kickoff to the outdoor running season in Chicago, the 40th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle treats runners to a scenic 8K run through downtown Chicago and two-mile walk along Chicago?s lakefront. The 8K run will kick start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the two-mile walk at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 24. Follow the race runners can enjoy live music at the traditional Post-Race Party in Grant Park.
