Athletics: Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon Participants To Celebrate Running And Music With Free Access To American Music Festival Performances

VIRGINA BEACH, Va. / TAMPA, Fla. (July 18, 2019) -The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® has announced that 2019 Rock ‘n’ Roll® Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5K presented by Brooks participants will have an opportunity to experience an exciting running festival Aug. 30 - Sept. 1 complete with an incredible lineup of music on the sand at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Race weekend coincides with the 26th Annual Chartway Federal Credit Union American Music Festival, which features free concerts at the 17th, 24th & 31st Street stages and paid admission to the 5th Street Main Stage concerts. All participants in the half marathon will receive exclusive free entry to all headliner concerts on the 5th Street Main Stage featuring Lee Brice, 311, and Live. Included with race registration, 5K presented by Brooks and 1-mile runners can enjoy free entry to the Sunday night concert featuring Live with special guest Dashboard Confessional. In addition, The Deloreans, Virginia Beach’s ‘80s showband, will rock the Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series stage at the finish line festival following the half marathon on the Sunday. The Virginia Beach based band is comprised of six distinct vocalists that cover the most memorable artists and nostalgic songs of the ‘80s. Each band member is featured throughout the show, making this band’s most notable attribute its unmatched variety. The Deloreans are known for their dynamic ‘80s costumes, unstoppable energy, and their ability to bring down the house. The exuberant group makes for a fantastic post-race experience for both runners and spectators alike, and adds to the weekend of music and celebration.

As has been the tradition for 19 years, Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach will share the Labor Day weekend festivities at the oceanfront with the Music Festival concluding the action-packed weekend of racing with toes in the sand, dancing on the beach and music across the entire course.

Hailed as one of the country’s longest running and largest outdoor oceanfront music events, Chartway Federal Credit Union American Music Festival will include music by Vertical Horizon, Cracker, Parmalee, Blind Boys of Alabama, Larkin Poe, Camper Van Beethoven, William Michael Morgan and Tenille Arts. All performances take place along the oceanfront at the 5th Street Main Stage on the Beach and at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and 31st Street Park stages. The 5th Street Main Stage is built on the beach offering a special waterfront view.

The musically-themed running event Bringing the Fun to the Run(TM) starts with a 5K presented by Brooks on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 a.m. from 21st Street and Atlantic Avenue. Following the 5K, is the 1-Mile in a new location for 2019. The Mile Run has moved from the sand to the street and will start and finish at the same locations as the 5K. The Mile races will start at 8:15 a.m. with a series of races based on pace Infused with live bands and entertainment and spirited support throughout the course, the event continues with the half marathon taking place at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 located at 14th Street and Pacific Ave. While taking in some of the scenery along the beach front, this flat and fast course is jam packed with spectator support and energetic bands spread throughout the course.

Race weekend kicks off with a Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, Aug. 30 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 31 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition and training, and is free and open to the public.
