November 28, 2009: In today's Canadian Cross Country Championships in Guelph, ON Daniele Riendeau finished 22nd in 25:48.1 for the 7K senior women's course and Daun Lynch finished 44th in 27:56.7

November 21, 2009: In this morning's Ottawa Lions "Distance Dance" Dani Riendeau ran 10:23.5 and Stacey Lance 10:28.3 placing 2nd and 4th respecitively.

November 1, 2009: Sophia Tsouros placed second in the Enduro (11k) Trail Run in 1:31:43. This race was the last of the 5 peaks series (www.5peaks.com) and Sophia ended up winning the Eastern Ontario / Quebec series overall.

October 25, 2009: In the morning's Rattle Me Bones 5K in Ottawa, Daniele Riendeau was the first woman (and 5th overall) in 17:28; Stacey Lance was third in 18:35; Paula Hickman was fifth and first Masters (50-59) in 20:21, and Lisa Steele was 7th and first Masters (40-44) in 20:56.

In the 10K Rebecca Stallwood was second woman in 40:50.

In the Ottawa University XC meet at Terry Fox, Beth Primrose was the first woman in 11:28, Daun Lynch was third in 11:36, Liz Maguire was 6th in 12:02, Heather Hillsburg was 10th in 12:21, and Rachel Scmidt was 16th in 12:54.
The OACRT team placed second with 34 points to UOttawa's 28.

October 18, 2009: Sara Domina finished this morning's Toronto Marathon in 3:17:22 (chip) to finish 12th woman and 6th in her age-group; Carolyn Turner finished in 3:20:41.6 finishing 16th woman and 3rd Masters (40-44).

August 24, 2009: Mathea Stevens and Garnett Stevens, who train with the OAC Racing Team, won the Youth A Girls and Youth A Boys divisions at the Canadian Modern Pentathlon Championships Saturday in Port Coquitlam, BC.

August 23, 2009: In this morning's Cornwall Olympic Triathlon Sara Domina was first in 2:15:04 and Daniele Riendeau was third in 2:22:26.
In the Sprint Duathlon, Lisa Balerna was second in 1:08:21.

August 22, 2009: Sophia Tsouros placed third in the Camp Forune Trail Run.
Rachel Schmidt placed 7th age group, 15th female in the 5peaks Trail Race on August 22 at Whistler

August 16, 2009: Danielle Riendeau and Andrea Ager placed first in the Female 45 and Under Muddy Muddy race in Boulder, CO in a time of 45:16.
Race Description
Each race features a 6-7 mile course and 5 obstacles. At the start of the race, one team member will run and one will ride the bike. At the 1st obstacle, the rider will drop the bike, complete the obstacle, and begin running. The runner will arrive, complete the obstacle, find their bike, and begin riding. Teams will continue leapfrogging each other through the entire course. At the end of the race, racers will crawl through the infamous Mud Pit crossing the finish line together!

In this morning's Thousand Islands Duathlon, Lisa Balerna was the first female (and 8th overall) in 1:09:22.
In the Sprint Triathlon Michelle Schuler was the second female in 1:17:20.

August 1, 2009: In this morning's National Capital Triathlon Melanie Patina finished in 2:33:59 for the Olympic distance placing 3rd in her age-group; in the Sprint triathlon Regine Ambroise finshed in 1:13:41 placing first in her age-group.
In the Sprint Duathlon, Joscelyn Coolican was the first woman in 1:12:27.

July 26, 2009: Judy Andrew-Piel finished today's Lake Placid Ironman in 11:29:38 placing 3rd Master (45-49). Jennifer Hopkins finished in 13:46.

June 13, 2009: In this morning's Britannia Beach Run 5k, Regine Ambroise was first woman (and Masters 45-49) in 19:55.
In the Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon, Kerry Rocheleau was the first woman in the Olympic Triathlon in 2:37:40 and Daniele Riendeau was 3rd woman in 1:17:43 for the 500M swim, 23.7K cycle and 5K run. She had the 2nd fastest overall 5K run time with an 18:10.
Lisa Balerna was the first woman in the Duathlon in 2:25:08.

May 16, 2009: Lisa Balerna was the first female and 5th overall in this morning's Ottawa Early Bird Sprint Duathlon in a time of 1:11:39 for the 2K/22K/4K distance.

May 9, 2009: Lisa Balerna was the first female in the Where's Franktown 5K this morning in a time of 18:33. Tina Pippy was second in 18:57. Erin Morley was first in the 15K in 1:05:09.

May 2, 2009: Tina Pippy finished 1st female in the Short Course (2.5K, 19.4K, 2.5K) Cumberland Duathlon in 54:32. Kerry Rocheleau finished 2nd female in the Long Course (5K, 38.4K, 5K) in a time of 1:57:26.

April 24, 2009: Liz Maguire ran 17:42 in the Law Day 5K (actually 4.96) today in Ottawa. She was the first woman and second overall!

Paula set a W55 Can Marathon record in Ottawa, and a CAN record in the Hamilton Round The Bay 30K by 5 minutes.

March 29, 2009: In this morning's Around the Bay race in Hamilton, ON Liz Maguire placed 2nd female and 1st Master (40-44) in the 30K in a time of 2:00:17.
Lanni Marchant was the first female (and 13th overall) out of 1038 women in 17:19.

March 14, 2009: In this morning's St. Patrick Day races, Lanni Marchant won the 10K (37:27), Judy Andrew-Piel was 5th woman and first Masters in 41:32.7, and Stephanie McEvoy ran 49:31. Now in its 20th year, the format of the race features mixed teams of men and women running six alternating legs totaling 42.195 km as follows: 1st leg, Men 5 km; 2nd leg, Women 5 km; 3rd leg, Men 10 km; 4th leg, Women 5 km; 5th leg, Men 10 km; 6th leg, Women 7.195 km.

November 8, 2008: In this morning's Half-Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, FLA Cynthia WIlson placed 15th pro in 4:24:10; Tina Pippy finished in 4:45:23; Keli Kavanagh finished in 5:07:27; Erin Morley finished in 5:24:45 and Heather Thomson finished in 5:47:18.

September 21, 2008: In this morning's Army Run 5K, Lanni Marchant was the top female in 17:22.4, Stephanie Smith was 9th in 19:40.0, Paula Hickman was 11th in 20:12.8, Melanie Patina was 16th in 20:40.2, Marie Jane Roberts was 22nd in 21:11.3 and Lisa Steele was 25th in 21:22.0.
Jackie Sandoz ran unofficial 18:38.

The OAC was the top OVERALL team with a combined time of 57:17 for the top three scorers.

Liz Maguire was the top female in the half-marathon in 1:22:19, Daniele Riendeau was 3rd in 1:23:43.9, Sara Domina was 11th in 1:32:23.9 and Annie Robitaille was 12th in 1:32:25.6. The OAC was the top women's team (and 3rd fastest overall) in 4:18:28.

In the Last Chance Sprint Triathlon, Cynthia WIlson was first female and second overall in a time of 1:11.44.

September 14, 2008: Beth Primrose ran 1:21:14 for the Montreal Half-Marathon this morning placing second female and 1st master (45-49).
Regine Ambroise won her age-group in the Montreal Duathlon in 2:17:43.
Cynthia Wilson finished 6th Pro in the Ironman Muskoka 70.3 in a time of 4:53:00. Tina Pippy finished in 5:33:54 placing 4th in her age-group. Erin Morley finished in 5:51:09 placing 11th in her age-group.

September 6, 2008: Regine Ambroise placed 5th female in the St. Saveur Duathlon in a time of 1:31:17.
Beth Primrose ran 1:26 in this morning's Thousand Island Half-Marathon in Brockville, ON.

August 30, 2008: In this morning's Canadian 8K, Lisa Steele placed third female in 35:50.2.
In the sprint triathlon Sheila Kealey was 2nd female (and first Master 40-44) in 1:26:29; Tina Pippy was 5th female (and 2nd Master 40-44) in 1:30:20; Regine Ambroise was 3rd Master(45-49) in 1:37:59.
In the sprint duathlon Lisa Balerna was first female in 1:23:06.

August 23, 2008: Lisa Balerna finished second female at the Ontario Duathlon Championships in Coburg, ON in a time of 2:33:26 for the 10K run, 40K bike, 5K run.
In Toronto at the Ontario Masters Championships Paula Hickman ran a fine 19:49.49 to break the W55 Ontario Record of 20:01 that was set by Molly Turner in 1990.
Beth Primrose ran 18:39 to win the 45-49 category.

August 19, 2008: Sara Domina finished fourth woman in the Xerox 10K run in Ottawa with a time of 42:45.6.

August 17, 2008: Cynthia Wilson finished the Timberman 70.3 Ironman in 4:31:26 today, placing 3rd among the pro women and 14th overall

August 3, 2008: In this morning's K-Town Triathlon in Kingston, ON, Cynthia Wilson was second elite female and eighth overall in a time of 3:09:30 for the Long Course Triathlon. Keli Kavanagh finished in 3:29:07 placing first in her age-group;Jennifer Hopkins finished in 4:12:38.

August 2, 2008: In this morning's National Capital National Capital Triathlon, Duathlon, Sheila Kealey was first in the Sprint Triathlon in 1:06:30 and Regine Ambroise was seventh in 1:14:56.
In the Super Sprint Triathlon, Liz Maguire was first (overall!) in 1:07:27.
Michelle Schuler was second in the Olympic Triathlon in 2:27:54 and Melanie Patina was fifth in 2:37:36.
In the Sprint Duathlon, Lisa Balerna was first in 1:09:48.

July 27, 2008: In today's Newfoundland Ironman 70.3 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Cynthia Wilson placed second female in 4:33:34, Sara Domina placed 4th in 4:48:46, Tina Pippy finshed in 5:13:30 placing second in her age-group, and Heather Thomson finished in 5:58:59 placing third in her age-group.

July 20, 2008: Lanni Marchant ran 17:36 in the London Summer Night 5K on July 18, to place first female and 11th overall.
Stephanie Smith placed second in her age-group in the Niagara Triathlon in 1:26:23.
In the Logs, Rocks and Steel adventure race (16K of trail running, 14K of paddling and portaging and 15K of mountain biking) in Minden, ON on Saturday, Sophia Tsouros placed first woman and is off to New Zealand next February for the Coast to Coast race.

July 13, 2008: In this morning's Carleton Place 5K, Martine Quesnel (Ponka) was first in 19:26, Lisa Steele was third - and first Master (40-44) - in 22:26 and Stpehanie Plante was eighth in 23:58.
In the Graham Beasley Sprint Duathlon. Lisa Balerna was first woman (and fourth overall) in 1:07:20.

July 13, 2008: Cynthia Wilson won the elite women division of the Gatineau Triathlon on Saturday in a time of 1:01:48 for the 750M swim, 20K cycle and 5K run.
Stephanie Smith was the third woman and first in her age-group in the Olympic distance triathlon in 2:25:44.

July 9, 2008: Liz Maguire ran 5:00.52 for the 1500m in the Ottawa Lions Twilight Meet tonight.

July 6, 2008: Cynthia Wilson won the Canadian Long Course Triathlon Championships in Osoyoos, BC this morning in a time of 4:40:33 for the 2K swim, 90K cycle and 21.2K run, winning by almost 16 minutes!. She placed 18th overall!

July 5, 2008: Sheila Kealey placed second woman in this morning's MIke Collingwood Memorial Triathlon in Gatineau Park in a time of 1:28:52 for the 1200M swim, 23.5K cycle and 6.4K run.
A team of Erin Down, Nicholas Newell and Liz Maguire won the team category in 1:25:41. Ann Marie Foley, Stephanie Smith and Paula Hickman was the first women's team in 1:33:23.

July 1, 2008: In this morning's HBC Canada Day Run 10K, Michelle Schuler was second in 38:50.0, Jackie Sandoz was third in 39:12.8, Lisa Balerna was fourth in 39:43.5, Sheila Kealey was seventh (and second master) in 40:39.4, Annie Robitaille was fifteenth in 44:02.9, Jen Dillinger was twenty-second in 44:58.5, Lisa Steele was thirty-first in 45:56.4, and Stephanie Plante was thrity-third in 46:43.9.

June 14, 2008: In today's Riverkeeper Sprint Triathlon, Sheila Kealey finished second woman (and fourth overall) in 1:07:27, Melanie Patina was third in 1:11:57, Tifenn Vialatte was twelfth in 1:16:44. In the Olympic triathlon Keli Kavanagh was fourth in 2:27:51, Erin Morley was seventh in 2:31:12.

September 23, 2007: Three OAC athletes were named in the Ottawa Citizen's "Top 10 Performances From Ottawa Area's Amateur Runners":
1. Lisa Balerna
Last year's Ontario duathlete of the year already has won seven duathlons this season. The highlight of the year was last weekend, when she won the Canadian Duathlon Championships in Parry Sound. That win qualified Balerna for the world championships taking place in Italy next September. Along the way, she threw in a personal-best performance two weeks ago at the Gloucester half-marathon.
2. Chantal Gosselin
She won the Gloucester half-marathon in a personal-best time, and also finished first in the Xerox 10k and the Carleton Place 5k. But when she wrote in with nominations for the summer's best performances, she talked only about her teammates and left herself off the list.
3. Carolyn Turner
Running a personal-best time is supposed to be a rare event, but Turner did it twice in just over a week. She ran 5k in 18:46 on Sept. 1 and then won the Gloucester 5k in 18:18 on Sept. 9, knocking almost 30 seconds off her record.

August 26, 2007: Liz Maguire was the third woman and second master in the Quebec City Half-Marathon this morning in a time of 1:25:54. Esther Kong placed 12th woman and 2nd in her age-group in 1:38:22. The race was run under hot and windy conditions.
At the HSBC Sprint Duathlon at Calabogie, Lisa Balerna was the first woman and 5th overall in a time of 1:48:40 for the 5K run, 30K cycle, 5K run.

July 15, 2007: In the Carleton Place Heritage 5K today, the OACRT swept the women's medals with Chantal Gosselin first in 18:50, Martine Ponka second in 19:57 and Shirley Fleming third in 20:00.
In the Half-Ironman Duathlon, Michelle was first woman - and third overall - in a time of 4:27:48 for the 2K run, 90K cycle and 21.1K run.
Sophia Tsouros was second in the Graham Beasley Sprint Triathlon in Carleton Place this morning in a time of 1:15:02 for the 500M swim, 20K cycle and 5K run. Melanie Patina finished in 1:16:32 placing second in her age-group and Tifenn Vialatte finished in 1:18:34 placing fourth in her age-group.

Lisa Balerna was the first woman (and 3rd overall) in the Sprint Duathlon (2K run, 20K cycle, 5K run) in 1:06:19.
Esther Kong was the first woman in the Hintonburg Centennial 5k in 19:25, a PB by 4 seconds.

July 14, 2007: Erin Down placed first in her age-group in the Musselman Triathlon (500 yards-15 miles-3 miles) in Geneva, NY.

July 7, 2007: In this morning's Mike Collingwood Meech Lake Triathlon, Sheila Kealey placed 2nd woman and first masters in 1:32:23 for the 1200m swim, 22K cycle and 7K run.

The previous record was 1:58:49 set by Diane Legare in 1994. Michelle Schuler ran 2:02:04 (10th female and 2nd age-group), Susanne Russell 2:03:15 (12th female and 2nd age-group). Robyn DiCesare ran 2:28:42 (21st Master), Jane Rutherford ran 2:30:51 and Melanie Patina ran 2:31:34. Tina Pippy (1:04:39) and Kerry Rocheleau (1:07:13) ran the two-person 30K relay and placed 2nd Open Female Team in 2:11:50.

November 4, 2006: Black Ribbons Will Be Worn At NYC Marathon In Tribute To Emilie Mondor
Canadian 5000-meter Olympian Emilie Mondor had planned to make her marathon debut in New York but died after a car crash in September. "She was very dedicated to the sport and very excited to undertake the marathon distance," observed Deena Kastor, who knew Mondor from time spent together in Mammoth Lakes, CA. "The New York Road Runners have made available black ribbons for the elite athletes to wear on her behalf, so I think (you'll) see her well-represented on the starting line despite her lack of being there."

September 10, 2006: Athens Olympian Emilie Mondor, who had moved to the Ottawa area this summer, was killed in a car accident on September 9th while on her way home to attend her high school reunion.
Emilie, the first Canadian woman to run under 15:00 for 5K, was training for the marathon and was to make her debut in New York City in November.

July 2, 2006: In the HSBC ITU Brampton Pan American Cup Triathlon Susanne Russell was 15th elite female in a time of 2:14:06 for the Olympic distance.
In today's Barry's Bay Triathlon Ann Marie Foley was third woman, and first Master (40-44) in 1:49:07 for the 750M swim 30K cycle and 8K run. Joscelyn Coolican was sixth in 1:53:19 and Barb Saville was tenth and second Master(45-49) in 1:59:55.

July 1, 2006: In this morning's HBC Run for Canada in Ottawa, Liz Maguire and Michelle Schuler (PB time) finished 3rd and 4th only .2 seconds apart with times of 36:37.4 and 36:37.6 respectively. They were 12th and 13th overall in a field of 128 finishers.
Chantal Gosselin was 5th woman in 37:37, Annie Robitaille was 6th in 38:07, Esther Kong was 8th in 39:29, and Sheila Kealey was 9th in 39:32 (1st Master).

In Kanata, at the Motionware - Canada Day Road Races, Sue Kelly was 2nd in the 5K in 19:00, Shirley Fleming was 5th in 20:11, and Dennis Featherstone was first in the men's 60-69 age-group in 20:17.

June 25, 2006: In this morning's Smith Falls Classic Triathlon, Susanne Russell was 2nd woman - by 4 seconds - in 1:00:13 for the 500M swim, 20K cycle, 5K run course. June 18, 2006: In this morning's Muskoka Triathlon, Susanne Russell was 7th among Pro Women in 3:15:13 for the 2K swim, 55K cycle, 15K run course. Susanne improved her time by 2:32 over last year's race.

June 18, 2006: In this morning's Do It for Dad races, the OAC swept the women's 10K with Michelle Schuler the first woman (and 9th overall) in the 10K in 37:17; Chantal Gosselin was 2nd in 39:10, Annie Robitaille was 3rd in 39:45 and Tina Pippy was 5th in 41:26.
In the 5K, Susan Kelly was 2nd in 19:08, Carolyn Turner was 5th in 19:48, Barb Saville was 9th in 20:17 and Kerry Rocheleau was 10th in 20:46. In the men's 5K, Dennis Featherstone was first in the 60+ category in 20:47.

June 2, 2006: Heather Thompson competed in the Cabot Trail Relay on May 27th and 28th. She ran Leg 6, a 17.5K section with "a couple of long challenging hills" in 1:20:07 placing 2nd female and Leg 17, a 17.7K section with "a faitly steep grade" in 1:19:38, placing 3rd female.

June 2, 2006: Michelle Schuler's ING Ottawa Marathon performance - teamed with Rick Hellard of the Lions - earned $7,000 to introduce track and field to underprivileged children in the area. The Ottawa Team placed fourth in the ING Run for Something Better competition.

May 23, 2006: Due to the uncertainty of Liz Maguire's recovery from a calf injury, she has been replaced by Michelle Schuler on the ING Marathon Run for the Fastest City Ottawa team where she will run with Rick Hellard.

May 20, 2006: Susanne Russell was the first woman and third overall in the Ottawa Early Bird Triathlon held at Carleton University. Her time was 1:11:25 for the 500M swim, 22;8K cycle and 5K run. Teammmates Sheila Kealey and Kerry Rocheleau were third and fourth in 1:17:37 and 1:21:35 respectively.
In the duathlon, Lisa Balerna was first female in 1:15:53 for the 2K run, 22.8K cycle, 5K run.

Chilled out rescue team
THE Canadians are also firing up for Rescue06, the World Lifesaving Championships to he held in Geelong next month.
Already, they look the most resourceful team, completing the last little bits of their training in freezing cold temperatures and layers of woolly clothing, with no unfrozen water or sand in sight. For paddleboard and surf ski practice, Ottawa's Carla St Germain and teammates Daniel Berube, Susan Kelly and Oliver Gomes tie their boards and skis to a wall at an indoor pool and paddle up against it.
They do their beach training on the snow and ice sprinting in their snowshoes and are swapping steaming cups of coffee for beach flags. "It's tough running with all the winter gear on, so we should feel fairly lightweight with a bathing suit and bare feet," St Germain said.

July 13, 2005: At the NCRA's No Frills 10-Miler at the Experimental Farm, Angela Plamondon won in 1:07:51 and Esther Kong was third in 1:12:54.

July 10, 2005: Susanne Russell was third WPRO in the Peterborough Half-Ironman Triathlon today with a time of 5:01:56 for the 2K swim, 90K cycle and 21.1K run.

July 9, 2005: Sheila Kealey won the OAC Triathlon (actually a swim-run duathlon) for the fourth time in the past five years - she was second in 2003. She finished in a time of 1:00:16 for the 1200M swim, 9.6K run.
Barb Saville was the second Masters(40+), after Sheila, in 1:05:47; Ann Marie Foley was the third Master(40+) in 1:07:18.
A number of club members competed in the relay - Paula Hickman was on the winning Mixed team with Don MacDonald (Ann Marie's husband), Erin Down and Esther Kong were second in the Women's Team and Sophia Tsouros was on the third place Women's Team.

Mary Jane Middelkoop competed in the MEC 5 Peaks Trail Running series in Mansfield and finished as fifth female despite getting temporarily lost while in second position. Her time was 1:07:10 for the 10K "Enduro" course.

In the Duathlon, Michelle Schuler was first with a time of 1:06:22 for the 3K run, 20K cycle, 5K run. Her 5K split of 19:29 tied for 3rd fastest overall!
Joscelyn Coolican finished in 1:07:32, 3rd in her age-group as did Tanya Shaw with a time of 1:09:34.

June 19, 2005: In the Muskoka Long Course Triathlon today, Suanne Russell was the 6th Female in the PRO category in a time of 3:17:45 for the 2K swim, 55K cycle and 15K run.
Kerry Rocheleau finished fifth in her age-group in 3:27:56.

June 19, 2005: Michelle Schuler was the first woman in today's Alterna Do It For Dad 10K in a PB time of 36:58, placing 5th overall!

June 18, 2005: In today's Ottawa Riverkeeper Duathlon, Lisa Balerna was the eighth woman (2nd in age-group) in a time of 2:22:06 for the 10K run, 40K cycle and 5K run, riding the last 10K with a flat tire! Paula Hickman was 1st in her age-goup in 2:27:36 and Jen Hopkins finished in 2:35:21.

June 11, 2005: In today's Lace Leamy triathlon, Susanne Russell was first woman and 4th overall in the Sprint race (750M swim, 20K cycle, 5K run) in a time of 1:10:43. She had the fastest swim split - 12:08 - overall.

June 5, 2005: Sophia Tsouros finished fourth female in an off-road triathlon (HSBC Triathlon Series) at the Fanshawe Conservation area. Her time for the 750M swim, 21K cycle and 6K run was 1:54:41.

May 29, 2005: In this morning's ING Ottawa Marathon, Michelle Schuler ran a PB 2:56:14 to place 6th woman. She ran a negative split, passing 21.1K in 1:28:41 and then running the second half in 1:27:34.

May 3, 2005: On the past weekend Sophia Tsouros and Robyn De Cesare competed in Adventure Racing Canada's off road triathlon outventure. They paddled a canoe on Lake Ontario at Harbourfront, then did a run along Lakeshore and finished with a mountain bike section along the Don Valley. They finished in 3 hours, and won the Female Duo Division.
Robyn is doing the Salomon Adventure Challenge this weekend in Bon Echo..it's a 5-8 hour race involving paddling,trail running and mountain biking.

March 20, 2005: In today's Around the Bay 30K race in Hamilton, Liz Maguire ran a 1:59:21 to place 3rd female (out of 1721)and first in her age-group. She was 46th overall out of 3546 finishers.
Angela Plamondon ran 2:14:23 for 29th female and seventh in her age-group. Robyn Dicesare finished in 2:20:03 to place 52nd female and 4th in her age-group.

March 14, 2005: Chantal Gosslin (Roberts) and Michelle Schuler placed 1-2 in Saturday's St. Patrick's Day 10K in times of 38:55 and 38:57 respectively. Robyn Dicesare was 5th in 43:11.

February 27, 2005: Mary Jane Middelkoop Inducted into UTC Athletics Hall of Fame
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga inducted five new members into the Athletics Hall of Fame Friday night at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. Those honored were Mary Jane Middelkoop, April Miller Raschke, Keith Nelson, Curtis Rouse and Mike Royster.
Mary Jane Middelkoop - Cross Country And Track, 1994-97
Mary Jane Middelkoop is one of the most decorated female student-athletes in UTC athletics history.
An outstanding distance runner, Middelkoop was selected as the 1997 Southern Conference Female Athlete of the Year.
She won nine conference distance championships in indoor and outdoor track. Among her conference titles are the outdoor 5000 meter run in 1995, 1996 and 1997, the indoor 5000 in 1996 and 1997, the outdoor 3000 in 1995 and 1996, the indoor 3000 in 1995 and the distance medley relay indoors in 1995.
She placed among the top eight in all four of the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships in which she competed, including a third-place finish as a freshman in 1994.
A member of the school record-holding indoor 4x800 and 4x1600 relay teams, Middelkoop was named the SoCon Cross Country Freshman of the Year and the SoCon Women’s Indoor Freshman of the Year. She was the school’s nominee for the NCAA Female of the Year in 1997 and earned a spot on the GTE Academic All-District IV At-Large Team.
Middelkoop was a Dean’s List student every semester, elected to Alpha Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1997 she was awarded the UTC A. C. “Scrappy” Moore Award and the Dorothy Hicks graduate scholarship from the Southern Conference.

February 26, 2005: Sheila Kealey was 12th out of 635 women in the 2005 Subaru American Birkebeiner, North America's largest cross country ski marathon, in Wisconsin.

February 20, 2005: In today's Keskinada Loppett XC ski race, Sheila Kealey placed 2nd female and 1st Master(40+) in the 52K Free Style in a time of 2:41:40.

February 19, 2005: Robyn Dicesare ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 3:18:34 on Saturday placing 8th fenale, 1st Masters (40+) and 92nd overall out of 1,346 finishers. Angela Plamondon finished the Half-Marathon in 1:43:27, walking it in after sustaining a calf injury.

February 14, 2005: Stephanie Smith was 2nd in the Paradiso Restaurant Valentines Sweetheart Race 5 Km Run in a time of 19:38 on Saturday.

February 5, 2005: In today's Winterlude Triathlon, Sheila Kealey won the women's division for the eighth time! in 52:36 for the 8K skate, 4.5K ski and 5K run.
Michelle Schuler was second in her category in 57:34 with a 20:32 run, 17th fastest overall. Robyn DiCesare finished in 1:02:59, 6th in her age-group and Jocelyn Coolican finished in 1:09 for tenth in her age-group.

October 10, 2004: Kelly Knoll was the first woman in today's Ottawa Half-Marathon in Cumberland with a time of 1:32:06.

October 9, 2004: In this morning's Beat Beethoven 8K in Ottawa, Carolyn Turner placed 3rd woman and 2nd in her agegroup in 31:04. Lynne Bermel was 4th woman and first masters in 32:04. Kerry Rocheleau was 5th woman in 34:27.

October 3, 2004: Susan Gomes has returned home from Viareggio, Italy where she competed in the World Lifesaving Championships. Susan's team, the St. Laurent Masters, was the only Masters team representing Canada and they were very successful despite huge surf in the ocean. The team took home 14 medals in total, 4 relay medals and 10 individual.
Individually, Susan was awesome with:
1st - Beach Sprint
1st - 2km Beach Run
3rd - Beach Sprint Relay
3rd - Paddle Board Relay
3rd - 200m Medley Relay.
Susan was selected to carry the flag for Canada in the closing ceremonies.

September 12, 2004: Paula Hickman won the Gloucester 5K this morning in a time of 19:43. Shirley Fleming was third in 20:03. Tracy Montgomery was fourth in 21:19. In the men's race John Lewis was fourth in 18:03 and Dennis Featherstone was first in his age-group in 19:16.
In the Half-Marathon, Angela Plamondon was second in 1:27:16. Robyn Dicesare was fourth in 1:33:57. It was OAC alumni day as six former OCERers, Chantal Gosselin (Roberts) (1:27:00), Barb Saville (1:30:12), Kelly Knoll (1:42:11), Michelle Martin (Marshall) (1:38:55), Catherine Fletcher (1:47:07) and Dave Saville (1:19:09) all raced.

In the Montreal Half-Marathon, jennifer Hopkins ran 1:39:58.

September 6, 2004: In the Monster Challenge Triathlon (Sprint - (0.5 Mi Swim, 12.4 Mi Bike, 3.1 Mi Run)) in Boston, MA yesterday, Erin Down was 4th woman and 2nd in her age-group with a time of 1:09:31

September 4, 2004: Susanne Russell captured first place in the Canadian Half Ironman held in Ottawa today. Her time was 4:43:07 for the 2K Swim, 90K Bike and 21.1K run.
In the Sprint Triathlon (500M Swim, 30K Cycle, 5K Run), Joscelyn Coolican finished 2nd in her age-group in 1:25:08.

August 28, 2004: Susan Gomes placed 2nd in the 2km beach run in a time of 6:19:43 - the winner running 6:18:53, and 2nd in the Beach Flags event at the National Life Saving Championships held in Halifax.
Susan will be competing in the Worlds to be held in Viareggio & Livorno, Italy September 11 – 27 2004.

July 7, 2004: Ottawa's Joyce Burghardt Enters Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame
Ottawa's Navy Lieutenant-Commander Joyce Burghardt (formerly Switzer) , a member of the Ottawa Athletic Club Racing Team, will be inducted into the CF Sports Hall of Fame this October: the ultimate honour that is bestowed upon Canada's best military athletes.
She will join former OACRT members Lynne Bermel (in 1992) and Sharon Donnelly (in 1999).
Joyce has won the CF women's running championship a record 8 times and on several occasions has represented Canada overseas at international running events including competing 3 times at the World Military Games (essentially the Olympics for the military).

May 9, 2004: Suzanne Russell won the Mother's Day Duathlon (and was 12th overall) in Cumberland in a time of 59:40. Kerry Rocheleau was 4th in 1:02:47 and Sophia Tsouros was 6th in 1:08:09. Sheila Kealey and Amanda Shaw had finished 1-2 in the duathlon but both were DQed for crossing the center-line during the bike portion.

Robyn Dicesare won the Half-Marathon in 1:31:32.

November 15, 2003: In this mornings McCay, Duff & Company Help Santa 2-Miler in Ottawa, OAC women took the top 4 spots and six out of the top ten.
Liz Maguire edged out MJ (Mary Jane) Middelkoop 11:08 to 11:11; Lisa Balerna was 3rd in 11:31 followed closely by Chantal Roberts in 11:36. Dicesare DiCesare was 7th in 12:30 and Sophia Tsouros was 10th in 12:59.

November 3, 2003: The OAC swept the Jim Howe Memorial XC (10K) race held at the Hornet's Nest near Blackburn Hamlet. Sheila Kealey was first in 42:13, Stephanie Duffy was second in 42:59 and Chantal Roberts was third in 44:26. Robyn DiCesare was fifth in 46:31.

October 26, 2003: In this morning's Rattle me Bones races at the Ottawa General Hospital Lynne Bermel won the 10K in a time of 37:34, Michelle Schuler was 4th in 39:02 and Lisa Balerna was 5th in 40:11.
In the 5K Sheila Kealey was third in 18:45. Muya Wachira was first in his age group in 19:04.

October 18, 2003: The OAC women's team (MJ Middelkoop, Lisa Balerna, Erin Down, Ann Marie Foley and Sheila Kealey) won the women's open division in a combined time of 1:37:06.9.
Our mixed team of Muya Wachira, Barb Saville, Liz Snider, Dave Saville and Eric Martinat won the open mixed division in 1:33:17.8.
Our second mixed team of Dennis Featherstone, Wendy Fitzpatrick, Jen Hopkins, Robyn DiCesare and John Lewis were 2nd in the open mixed division in 1:40:13.8.
On the women's side new recruit Liz Snider ran the fastest 5K split in a time of 18:39.4 ahead of MJ Middelkoop who ran 18:41.8.
For the men, Dave Saville ran a 17:38.1.

October 11, 2003: Michelle Schuler ran a 3:03:07 marathon in Hartford, CT this morning, placing 48th overall and 3rd in her age-group.
Chantal Roberts placed second in today's Beat Beethoven 8K in a time of 31:12.

August 31, 2003: In the Canadian Half Triathlon run in Ottawa yesterday, Sheila Kealey was the second woman in a time of 4:34:32 for the 2K Swim, 90K Bike and 21.1K Run.
In the Sprint Triathlon (500M Swim, 30K Bike and 5K Run) Stephanie Duffy won in a time of 1:25:04 with a 19:44 5K run time good enough for 9th overall.
In the Try a Tri (200M Swim, 15K Bike and 5K Run), Lisa Balerna was the first woman (and 2nd overall) in 55:04 with her 5K run time of 20:08 first overall.
In the Half-Ironman UK at Sherborne Castle, Paula Hickman was first in the 50-54 category and qualified for the Hawaiian Ironman - which she will not be doing - in a time of 5:28:37.

August 25, 2003: In yesterday's Sharbot Lake Triathlon, Erin Down and Stephanie Duffy were first and second in times of 2:31:33 and 2:35:37 respectively.

August 17, 2003: In this morning's Thousand Island Triathlon, Duathlon & 5km Run in Brockville, Ontario:
Lisa Balerna was first female (and 12th overall) in the Duathlon (2.3K Run, 20.8K Cycle, 5K Run) in a time of 1:07:42 and Michelle Schuler was 2nd female in 1:07:59.
Erin Hawes was the first female in the Sprint (750M Swim, 21K Cycle, 5K Run) triathlon in a time of 1:07:45 and MJ Middelkoop was 8th female in the Olympic distance triathlon in 2:33:02.

August 11, 2003: In yesterday's Breath Of Life Run/Walk For Cystic Fibrosis held in Kanata, the OAC swept the top three women's places in the 10K.
Mary Jane (MJ) Middelkoop won the race in 38:43, followed closely by Lisa Balerna in 2nd place with a time of 38:56. New member Tanya Shaw was third in 42:13.
In the 5K Amanda Shaw was second in 19:34.

August 3, 2003: In today's Kingston Triathlon Sheila Kealey won the long course triathlon (2K Swim, 56.5K Bike and 15K Run) in 3:08:07. Erin Hawes was 2nd in 3:09:58. Paula Hickman won her age-group (Masters, 50-54) in 3:47:12.
In the Duathlon (4K Run, 30K Bike and 7.2K Run) Michelle Schuler was 2nd in 1:39:12 ,Lisa Balerna was 3rd in 1:40:59 and Amanda Shaw was 4th in 1:41:08.

July 20, 2003: In the Graham Beasley Triathlon Sheila Kealey was the first woman - and 7th overall - in a time of 2:14:53 for the Olympic Distance (1500M Swim, 40K Bike and 10K Run. Her run split was 41:06, 8th fastest, overall, for the day. Erin Hawes was 3rd woman in 2:21:00 and Erin Down was 4th in 2:22:35.
In the Sprint Triathlon Stephanie Duffy was the first woman - and 8th overall - in 1:06:33 for the 500M Swim, 20K Bike and 5K Run.
In the Duathlon the OAC women swept the top 3 places. Amanda Shaw was first - and 7th overall - in 1:11:59 for the 3K Run, 20K Bike and 5K Run. Michelle Schuler was second - and 8th overall - in 1:13:01. Lynda Hickman was 3rd woman and first Master in 1:15:09.
Lisa Balerna won the "Try A Tri" (overall!) in 1:01:46 for the 200M Swim, 20K Bike and 5K Run distance.

July 19, 2003: In the National Capital Triathlon, Ann Marie Foley was 4th woman and 2nd Master (40+) in a time of 1:13:57 for the 750 Swim, 20K Bike and 5K Run. Mary Jane (MJ) Middelkoop, in her third triathlon, was 5th woman and 2nd in her age-group in 1:15:20. Her 5K Run split was 18:34, first among woman and 6th overall! Tanya Shaw was fourth in her age-group in 1:19:07. Tracy Montgomery was second in her age-group in 1:21:39.

July 17, 2003: In last night's Ottawa Lions Twilight Meet at Terry Fox, Stephanie Duffy ran 18:00.19 for the 5, 000M.

July 14, 2003: Paula Hickman was second in her age-group (50+) in yesterday's Utica Boilermaker 15K in a chip-time of 1:02:48.

July 5, 2003: A large contingent of OACers took part in the Ottawa Heart Institute Triathlon in Gatineau Park.
In the individual event Sheila Kealey was 2nd in 1:33:17 for the 1200M Swim, 22K Bike and 7K Run. Stephanie Duffy was 3rd in her age-group in 1:38:40, Ann Marie Foley was 2nd in her age-group in 1:42:36, Erin Down was 4th in her age-group in 1:44:12, Paula Hickman was 1st in her age-group in 1:48:14, Mary Jane Middelkoop was 5th in her age-group in 1:50:15 and Tracy Montgomery was 14th in her age-group in 2:00:03 after suffering from a side stitch which forced her to walk on the run section.
In the Relay, Lynda Hickman, Dora Erasmo, and Joyce Burghardt placed 2nd in the women's category by 6 seconds in 1:41:16.
Michelle Schuler ran a fast 28:22 split to help her team place 13th overall and Tanya Shaw did the cycle leg in 47:41 for her team.

July 1, 2003: In Kanata's Canada Day Races, Michelle Schuler was 2nd in the 10K in 38:58, Paula Hickman was 3rd in 40:15 and Chantal Roberts was 4th in 41:50.
In the 5K, Sheila Kealey was 2nd in 18:38, Lisa Balerna was 3rd in 18:40 and Joyce Burghardt was 4th female and 1st Masters(40+) in 19:04.

June 22, 2003: In today's Crosstrainer Smiths Falls Triathlon Duathlon & Figure 8 Run, Sheila Kealey won the triathlon in 1:00:42 for the 500M Swim, 20K Bike and 5K Run. Erin Hawes was 2nd in 1:03:27, and Mary Jane Middelkoop was 5th in her age group in 1:11:25 and Tracy Montgomery was 6th in 1:12:00.
In the Duathlon Amanda Shaw won in 1:01:49 for the 3K Run, 20K Bike, 5K Run. She was fourth overall. Michelle Schuler was 2nd woman and 9th overall in 1:04:14. Lisa Balerna was 3rd woman and 12th overall in 1:05:10.

June 18, 2003: In the Human Race Relay (5 X 1K) the OAC Racing Team was the first women's team and 4th overall. Astrid Daigle, Lisa Balerna, Amanda Shaw, Stephanie Duffy and Chantal Roberts made up the 5 person team.

June 15, 2003: In the Do It for Dad races in Ottawa, MJ Middelkoop was 2nd in 19:01, Paula Hickman was 3rd (and 1st Masters - 50+) in 19:04 and Ann Marie Foley was 4th (and 2nd Masters (40+) in 19:10. Former OAC members Lynne Bermel and Barb Saville were 1st (18:32) and 5th (19:25).
In the 10K Michelle Schuler won in 38:03. Dennis Featherstone was first in the Masters 60+ category in 40:49.
At the Muskoka Long Course Duathlon, Amanda Shaw won in 2:55:03 for the 3K Run, 55K Bike, 15K Run course.

June 8, 2003: In today's Dash for Diabetes 5K Sheila Kealey won in 18:47, Joyce Burghardt was 3rd (and 1st Masters - 40+) in 19:06 and Ann Marie Foley was 4th (and 2nd Masters - 40+) in 19:34.

June 2, 2003: In yesterday's Beat Beethoven 8K in Kingston, Joyce Burghardt placed 4th female and first masters (40-49) in 31:13.

May 26, 2003: In Saturday's Early Bird Triathlon/Duathlon in Ottawa, Amanda Shaw won the Duathlon (2K, 22.2K, 5K) in 1:05:34 with Michelle Schuler (formerly Sears) 3rd in 1:11:17.
Lisa Balerna won (overall!)the Tri-A-Tri (100M, 12.1K, 2K) in 34:44.
In the Triathlon (500M, 22.2K, 5K), Sheila Kealey was third in 1:07:23, Erin Hawes was fifth in 1:07:59 and Tracy Montgomery making her triathlon debut finished 12th in 1:27:26.

May 19, 2003: Sheila Kealey won the Runner's Life Duathlon in Peterborough yesterday (and placed 8th overall!) in a time of 1:12:43 for the 5K/20K/5K course.
Amanda Shaw was 3rd female in 1:15:39.

In the 5K Muya Wachira ran 18:53 to place 1st Masters(50+).
In the Half-Marathon Lisa Balerna ran 1:34:09 to place 3rd in her age-group.

May 3, 2003: Joyce Burghardt won the Diefenbooker Classic 5K on Carp, Ontario this morning in a time of 19:43.

April 27, 2003: In today's Physiotherapy Run, Joyce Burghardt was the first female and first Master (40+) in the 10K in 40:26.

April 22, 2003: In yesterday's Boston Marathon Robyn Di Cesare and Chantal Roberts ran 3:32:46 and 3:37:13 respectively.

April 14, 2003: In yesterday's Run for Reach, Paula Hickman ran a PB 1:28:49 to win the Half-Marathon, Lisa Balerna was fourth in the 10K in 41:47 and Sheila Kealey and Ann Marie Foley were 5th and 6th in the 5K in 19:29 and 19:32 respectively. Ann Marie was the first Master.

March 30, 2003: Robyn Di Cesare ran 2:13:11 in today's Around the Bay 30K race in Hamilton. She placed 275th our of 3,699 finishers and 5th in her age-group.

March 15, 2003: Lisa Balerna was 5th female in this morning's St. Patrick's Day 5K in a time of 19:39. Chantal Roberts was 3rd female in the 10K in 41:12.

March 10, 2003: Dennis Featherstone won two gold medals at the Canadian Masters Indoors in Toronto this weekend, winning the 1500M in 5:10 and the 3000M in 11:09.

February 23, 2003: Stephanie Duffy and Robyn Di Cesare placed 1st and 3rd in today's Peterborough Half-Marathon in times of 1:37:22 and 1:41:13 respectively.

February 16, 2003: a number of OAC Racing Team members demonstrated their multi-sport capabilities today as they competed in the Keskinada 50K Freestyle ski race. Sheila Kealey placed 4th woman and 1st in her age-group in a time of 2:25:25 (65th overall out of 538); John Lewis finished in 2:57:57 (after losing his pole at the start -it got stepped on- and had to take off his skis and run against a mass of approaching skiers to rescue it! Needless to say, this got him off to a poor start that he didn't really recover from); Michelle Sears was 8th in her age-group and 20th woman in 3:03:04.
In the 25K event Amanda Shaw placed 2nd in her age-group in 1:56:10 and Robyn Di Cesare was 11th in her age-group in 2:08:50.

February 2, 2003: Sheila Kealey repeated as the top female in the Winterlude Triathlon in a time of 58:23, placing 16th overall! Amanda Shaw was 3rd in 1:03:42. Michelle Sears finished first in her age-group in 1:08:13. Robyn Dicesare was 6th in her age-group in 1:10:14.

January 20, 2003: Three OACers competed in the Richmond Road Races yesterday. Amanda Shaw was 4th in the 5K in 20:20. Chantal Roberts placed 5th in the 10K in 42:13 and Robyn Di Cesare was 7th in 42:57.

January 16, 2003: Coach Ken Parker received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal at a ceremony at the Congress Center on January 18, 2003.

November 11, 2002: Erin Down placed 37th in her age group at the World ITU Championships in Cancun, Mexico yesterday in a time of 2:26:33.

November 5, 2002: Chantal Roberts won the women's division of the 2002 Ottawa Road Race Series, Amanda Shaw won the 20-29 women's category and Larry McCloskey was 3rd in the 40-49 men's category.
On Sunday at the Jim Howe Memorial NCRA Cross Country Race, Chantal placed 2nd in the 10k race in a time of 43:02.

October 20, 2002: In today's Toronto Marathon Chantal Roberts ran 3:18:11 to place 13th woman.
In the Ottawa University "Run for Lunch" 5K, Larry McCloskey was 2nd overall (and first Master(40+) in 16:05, Ann Marie Foley was the 2nd woman, and first Master(40+), in 19:21 and Lisa Balerna was 4th woman in 19:25.

October 15, 2002: Catching up on the weekend's races...
Saturday at the Beat Beethoven 8K, Larry McCloskey was 3rd overall - and first Master(40-49) in 27:24 and Chantal Roberts was 4th woman and first in her age-group in 32:38; Lisa Balerna was 5th woman and 3rd in her age-group in 32:49.
In the Ottawa Marathon on Sunday in Cumberland, Kelly Knoll was the first woman - and 3rd overall! -in 3:17:07.

October 7, 2002: Dennis Featherstone of the OAC placed fourth in the George Sheehan 60-69 section of the Pontiac Fifth Avenue Mile race in New York City on September 28th. His time was 5:15.
Earlier in the summer Dennis won gold medals for his age group in the 1500 and 5000 meters at the Canadian Masters Outdoor Championships in July in Toronto, ON.

June 16, 2002: In the Muskoka Long Course Duathlon, Amanda Shaw was the first female in 2:57:24; Lisa Balerna finished in 3:13:47 after crashing on her bike - and breaking her watch!.

In this morning's Do It for Dad (in the rain!) 5K, Lynne Bermel was the first female, and first Master(40+) in a time of 18:43. Dennis Featherstone was the first in the 60+ Masters in 19:29. Ann Marie Foley ran 19:37 to place 3rd female and 2nd Masters(40+). Barb Saville was 4th female and 3rd Masters(40+) in 19:51.
In the 10K Dave Saville was 3rd in 36:07.
In the Run with Dad 5K, Chantal Roberts, a new member of the OAC, ran 19:41 to place first female.

June 9, 2002: Paula Hickman placed 2nd in the Dash to Cure Diabetes 10K in Ottawa in a time of 42:22.

June 2, 2002: Erin Down, racing under her alias - "Karen Down", competed in the Milton Triathlon and was second in her age group in a time of 1:46:15.

May 25, 2002: In today's Early Bird Duathlon and Triathlon - in the duathlon, Amanda Shaw was the first woman (and 9th overall!) in a time of 1:08:52) for the 2,5K run, 22.2K cycle, 5K run and Lisa Balerna was 2nd in 1:11:17.
In the triathlon, Sheila Kealey was 2nd in a time of 1:07:45 for the 500M swim, 22.2K cycle, 5K run.
In the Colonel By Classic 10K Robyn Di Cesare was the first woman (and 4th overall) in 41:15.

May 21, 2002: On Sunday, Erin Down competed in the Columbia Triathlon and under less than ideal conditions - in Erin's words -"It was freezing!!!! And it is a very challenging (hilly!) course!", she placed 9th in her age-group in a time of 2:36.

May 13, 2002: In races over the weekend..in the Nordion 10K, Larry McCloskey was the first Master (45+), Dennis Featherstone was first in the 60+ group, Ann Marie Foley was 2nd in the women's 40+, Erin Down ran a sub 40, Paula Hickman was the first in the 50+ group.
In the Half-Marathon Robyn Di Cesare and Lisa Balerna were both 2nd in their age group.

May 4, 2002: Amanda Shaw and Sheila Kealey placed 2nd and 3rd in today's Gatineau Park Duathlon. Amanda had a time of 1:40:46 and Sheila 1:41:12.
In the 10K, Robyn DiCesare won in 43:59 after running off the course.

April 28, 2002: In this morning's cold and windy Physiotherapy races, Ann Marie Foley braved the elements to win the 5K in 19:37; Larry McCloskey was 4th male and first Masters (40+) in 16:27. In the 10K, Paula Hickman was 2nd woman and first Masters in a time of 42:16.

April 21, 2002: Run for Reach opened the 2002 outdoor road racing season for several OAC members.
Ann Marie Foley won the 5K in 18:48, Lisa Balerna was 2nd in 19:07 and Linda Marchese was 7th in 20:25. Larry McCloskey was 4th male and 1st Master in 15:56.
In the 10K, Amanda Shaw was 3rd in 39:41 and Sheila Kealey was 5th in 40:11.

April 15, 2002: In today's Boston Marathon Angela Plamondon ran 2:58:29 (2:57:34 chip time) and Robyn Dicesare ran 3:14:29 (3:11:22).

April 4, 2002: At last night's 49th Associated Canadian Travellers and City of Ottawa amateur sports awards dinner Lynda Hickman was named "Triathlete of the Year" and coach Ken Parker was named "Volunteer of the Year" for 2001.

March 25, 2002: Robyn Di Cesare raced in the Hamilton Around the Bay 30K on Sunday. She placed 17th female and was 5th in her age group in a time of 2:11:54.

March 16, 2002: Sheila Kealey and John Lewis competed in the ITU Canmore Winter Triathlon in Canmore, Alberta. Sheila placed 7th in the elite women's field while John was 2nd in the 35-39 age group.

A number of OAC Racing Team members competed in this morning's St. Patricks Day races - Robyn Dicesare was 3rd in 40:15 in the 10K, Amanda Shaw was 4th in 40:42 and Angela Plamondon was 5th in 40:47. In the 5K, Larry McCloskey was 7th overall and first Master in 16:40 and Lisa Balerna was 3rd in 19:59.

March 5, 2002: Dennis Featherstone ran in the Ontario Masters' Indoor Championships at York University on the weekend and won his age group in the 1500M in 5:04. He also won the 3000M in 11:01, again finishing first in my age group. This time would have won the 50-59 age group as well.

February 24, 2002: Robyn Dicesare placed 6th Female in today's Gatorade Half-Marathon in Peterborough, Ontario in a time of 1:30:56.

February 19, 2002: Lynda Hickman was named female Masters Triathlete of-the-year by Triathlon Canada.

February 3, 2002: Sheila Kealey won the women's division of the Winterlude Triathlon this morning in a time of 51:57. John Lewis was 13th in a time of 55:04. Robyn Dicesare was 4th woman in 1:02:22. The event consisted of 5K ski, 5K run and 5K ski. The skating portion was removed due to the condition of the Rideau Canal.

January 20, 2002: Three OACers braved the winter weather and ran in the Richmond 10K. Kelly Knoll was 2nd in 39:33, Angela Plamondon was 4th in 40:15, Robyn DiCesare was 5th in 40:32 and Linda Marchese was 8th in 44:18.

November 25 2001: In the Help Santa 2-Miler in Ottawa, Larry McCloskey placed 3rd in 8:46; in the women's race Robyn Dicesare was 2nd in 10:29 and Ann Marie Foley was 3rd in 10:39.

November 24, 2001: Angela Plamondon won the BRRC Northern Central Trail Marathon in Baltimore, MD in a PB time of 2:58:58.

October 28, 2001: Ann Marie Foley and Astrid Daigle ran the Rattle me Bones 5K today placing 3rd and 4th. Kelly Knoll was 2nd in the 10K.

October 21, 2001: Robyn Dicesare ran the Niagara Half-marathon in 1:33:09 placing 3rd in her age-group.

October 14, 2001: In today's Ottawa University Run for Lunch, Angela Plamondon won the 10K in 38:41; in the 5K Ann Marie Foley was third female and 1st Master(40+) in 18:53.

October 8, 2001: Robyn Dicesare placed third woman in the Cumberland Half-Marathon in a time of 1:31:14.

October 6, 2001: Lynne Bermel won the Beat Beethoven 8K in a time of 30:37, leading a strong contingent of OAC members who took the first 7 places among females - Angela Plamondon (2nd 31:36), Lisa Balerna (3rd 32:47), Ann Marie Foley (4th 33:17), Robyn Dicesare (5th 33:28), Amanda Shaw (6th 33:30), Kelsey Robin (7th 33:54). Barb Saville was 10th in 34:55.
Dave Saville was 6th in 28:14 in the men's race.

September 30, 2001: Lynne Bermel was the first female in the Ottawa Run for the Cure 5K in a time of 17:24.
In Waterloo Kelsey Robin ran a PB 19:22 to place first female in their Run for the Cure.

September 23, 2001: Erin Down ran the Toronto Waterfront Half-Marathon in 1:37:16.

September 9, 2001: Ann Marie Foley won the Gloucester Half Marathon 5K, Paula Hickman was 2nd, Kelsey Robin was 3rd and Barb Saville was 4th.
In the Half-Marathon Angela Plamondon was 2nd, Joyce Burghardt 3rd, Lisa Balerna 5th, Robyn Dicesare 7th, Amanda Shaw 9th, and Astrid Daigle 10th.
In the men's Half Dave Saville was 3rd.

August 18, 2001: Astrid Daigle won the Breath Of Life Run/Walk For Cystic Fibrosis 10K in Kanata in a time of 42:00.

August 12, 2001: Great Raisin River Run: Angela Plamondon won the 11.5K race this morning in Williamstown in a time of 44:25; team-mate Michelle Marshall was 3rd in 48:26.
At the Chemong Lake Triathlon in, Ennismore, Ontario, Erin Down placed 2nd female in a time of 2:23:43.

August 5, 2001: Amanda Shaw and Lisa Balerna placed 1-2 in the K-Town Duathlon today in Kingston, Ontario.

July 29, 2001: Ann Marie Foley completed her first (and last?) Ironman Triathlon at Lake Placid, NY in a time of 11:18:53 which placed her 370th overall. She was 42nd out of 392 starters among all females including the pros.

July 21, 2001: World Age Group Triathlon Championships, Edmonton: Lynda and Paula Hickman won gold and bronze (50-54 age group) respectively in today's world triathlon championships.
Erin Down placed 29th out of 48 in the 25-29 age group.
Sheila Kealey suffered a torn calf muscle in training and was unable to compete.

July 15, 2001: Graham Beasley Duathlon: Sheila Kealey won the women's race(10K run, 40K cycle, 5K run) in a time of 2:07:06.

July 11, 2001: Mid Summer Night Road Races: Barb Saville was 2nd female in 19:59.

July 8, 2001: Peterborough 1/2 Ironman Duathlon: Lisa Balerna was 8th overall and first female in a time of 4:24:06.

July 7, 2001: The Corel - Ottawa Athletic Club Triathlon in the Gatineau Park:
Individual performances: Sheila Kealey 1st woman in 1:28:10, Ann Marie Foley - 3rd women 35-39 in 1:35:22, Erin Down - 2nd women 25-29 in 1:36:51, Lynda Hickman - 1st women 50-54 in 1:37:12, Paula Hickman - 2nd women 50-54 in 1:44:10.
Team results: the original "Charlie's Angels" team of Lori Myers - swim, Dora Erasmo - cycle, and Lynne Bermel - run, were the 5th team overall and 1st women's. Lynne ran the overall 3rd fastest run split of the day for teams!

July 1, 2001: At the Canadian Triathlon Championships in Drummondville, PQ, Sharon Donnelly finished 3rd in 2:07:54.
At the Barry's Bay Triathlon Ann Marie Foley won in a time of 1:42:04.
In today's Canada Day races in Kanata, Joyce Burghardt won the 10k in 37:54, Angela Plamondon was 2nd in 39:28, and Paula Hickman was 5th (and first Masters 50+) in 40:38. In the men's race Dave Saville was 7th in 35:38.
In the 5K Lynne Bermel won in 17:55, Barb Saville was 6th (and 2nd Masters 40+) in 19:21, Dora Erasmo was 7th in 19:25, Shirley Fleming was 9th in 19:45 and Robyn Dicesare was 14th in 20:28.
At the Canadian Age Group Triathlon Championships in Drummondville, PQ, Sheila Kealey won her age group(30-35) in 2:17:35, Erin Down was 7th (25-29) in 2:26:32 and Lynda Hickman won her age group (50-59) in 2:31:45.

June 24, 2001: Joyce Burghardt won the Women's Run for Shelter 10K in 38:51 and Angela Plamondon won the accompanying 5K in 19:36.

June 23, 2001: In the Smith Falls Classic Sheila Kealey was the 2nd woman in the Triathlon in a time of 57:33. Lynda and Paula Hickman were 1-2 in their age group in times of 1:01:19 and 1:03:14 respectively.
In the 5K Road Race Robin Dicesare ran 20:27, and in the Duathlon Lisa Balerna finished in 1:05:40

June 20, 2001: Members of the OAC Racing Team placed 2nd and 15th in the Human Race 5 X 1K Relay, running for Sirius Consulting.

June 17, 2001: Ann Marie Foley was 1st in her age group in the Muskoka Long Course Triathlon in a time of 3:22:38.
Lisa Balerna was 2nd female in the accompanying Long Course Duathlon in a time of 3:04:56.
Lynne Bermel was the 2nd woman and 1st Masters woman in the Do if for Dad 10K in a time of 38:14; Dennis Featherstone was 10th overall and 1st Master(60+) in 39:30. In the accompanying 5K race Dave Saville was 4th in 17:27 and Barb Saville was 2nd woman and 1st Masters(40+) in 19:21.
Sheila Kealey and Angela Plamondon placed 1-2 in today's Father Day 5K in times of 19:08 and 19:14 respectively.

June 10, 2001: Lynne Bermel won the Kidney Foundation 5K Runraiser this morning in a time of 17:51. She was also the first female Master(40+).
The Hickman twins were 2nd and 3rd and 1st and 2nd Masters(50+) in 19:01(Paula) and 19:25(Lynda)

May 26, 2001:Several OAC athletes took part in today's Ottawa Triathlon/Duathlon & Colonel By 5 & 10 km Run.

May 14, 2001: The big National Capital Race Weekend is over and the Racing team did very well.
Saturday night in the Nordion 10K, Lynne Bermel marked her debut as a masters runner by winning her age group in a time of 36:37.
Sunday morning Joyce Burghardt(Switzer) ran 2:50:00 in the marathon to place 5th Female and 2nd Master. Kelly Knoll made her marathon debut in 3:09:33 despite running with major blisters for the last 10K or so. The blisters were so bad that the medical staff in the finish area sent her to the hospital.

April 29, 2001:Paula Hickman won her age group at the St. Anthony's Triathlon in St. Petersburg, FL in a time of 2:34:37.

Angela Plamondon was 3rd in the 5Kin 18:45; Sheila Kealey was 5th in 19:06; Lisa Balerna was 6th in 20:17.
Ann Marie Foley was 3rd in the Kingston Half-Marathon in 1:3010, after cycling 70K to get to Kingston!!

April 22, 2001: Sheila Kealey led the OAC team this morning in the Microsoft Run for Reach as she won the 10K in 38:55 on a very windy day. Michelle Marshall ran 41:45.

In the 5K Ann Marie Foley was 2nd in 19:07, 3 seconds behind the winner. Lynda Hickman was 3rd overall, and won her age group; Barb Saville ran 19:56, Erin Down was 20:11, Robyn Dicesare was 20:26 and Elise Le Brun ran 21:24.

March 25, 2001: Kelly Knoll ran a 2:08:37 30K at the Around the Bay road race in Hamilton, Ontario this morning. She placed 8th female and 2nd in her age group.

March 17, 2001: Joyce Switzer won the St. Patrick's Day 10K this morning in 37:58; Angela Plamondon was 2nd in 39:32; Leanne Yohemas-Hayes was 3rd in 40:53 for an OAC 1-2-3 sweep.
In the 5K, Robyn Dicesare was 4th in 20:39.

Lynda Hickman received two awards - masters female triathlete and masters female duathlete - at the recent Triathlon Canada Awards night in Toronto.

Sheila Kealey demonstrated her cross-competition skills when she place 1st in her age-group and 4th female in the Keskinada Cross Country Freestyle ski race in Gatineau Park on February 18th.

February 11, 2001: Sheila Kealey won the Winterlude Triathlon this morning in a time of 58:03 for the 8K skate, 5K ski and 5K run!

Lynda Hickman was named Masters Triathlete of the Year and Masters Duathlete of the Year for 2000 by Triathlon Canada on January 26th.
Congratulations Lynda!

Lynda and Paula Hickman were ranked in the top 5 in their age group in North America for the duathlon in the February 2001 "Inside Triathlon" magazine.
Lynda was ranked 1st!

As part of her goal for the National Capital Marathon, she will be raising funds for cancer treatment at the Ottawa Hospital in memory of her niece Tanya Heney, daughter of her brother Scott and his wife Elaine (nee Larose), and big sister to Jessica.
