10 Years Ago- Nicodemus Malakwen (KEN) won the Aramco Houston (TX/USA) Half Marathon over Brian Sell (USA)
1:02:07 to 1:02:37. Jason Hartman (USA) was 3rd at 1:03:07. Sell took the USA half marathon
title. Asmae Leghzaoui (MAR) outran Dorota Gruca (POL) 1:11:56 to 1:12:08 to win the women's
race. Adriana (Nelson) Pirtea (ROM) was 3rd at 1:12:45.
20 Years Ago- Elijah Lagat (KEN) prevailed at the 24th edition of the Nike Egmond aan Zee (NED) Half Marathon
with 1:03:09. Close behind were Vincent Rousseau (BEL) and Tadesse Woldemeskle (ETH) at
1:03:11 and 1:03:12 respectively. Tegla Loroupe (KEN) was a minute ahead in the women's race
at 1:15:19. Simona Staicu (ROM) at 1:16:18 and Linda Milo (BEL) at 1:17:04 completed the podium.
30 Years Ago- Paul Cummings (USA) bested David Edge (CAN) to win the 14th edition of the Houston-Tenneco (TX/USA)
Marathon, 2:11:32 to 2:11:40. Jerry Kiernan (IRL) was 3rd at 2:12:45 and Don Janicki (USA) was
5th at 2:13:12. Veronique Marot (ENG) had a two minute margin on runner-up Francie Larrieu (USA)
in the women's race, 2:31:33 to 2:33:37. Bente Moe (NOR) was a close 3rd at 2:33:40 while Christa
Vahlensieck (GER) was 4th at 2:35:43. Twenty-year-old Birgit Lennartz (GER) ran 2:46:28 for 11th.
Lennartz finished her 138th marathon on 14 Sep 2014 (3:16:04) at age 48. She ran her first marathon
at age 12.
40 Years Ago- Mariano Haro (ESP) won the 33rd edition of the Juan Muguerza Memorial Cross (ESP) 9.35K by ten
seconds over Richard Wilde (ENG). Santiago delaParte (ESP) was another 16 seconds back. Trevor
Wright (ENG) ran 5th.
50 Years Ago- Alan Simpon (GBR) won the Knights of Columbus (MA/USA) 2 miles (indoor) by less than a second over
Tom Laris (USA), 8:41.6 to 8:42.4. David-John Ellis (CAN) was 3rd at 8:44.0 and Eamon O'Reilly (USA)
was 4th at 8:52.2.
