Baptist Health South Florida is once again taking great strides to promote health and wellness in the community with its participation in the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, produced and presented by Life Time - The Healthy Way of Life Company.
More than 200 staff members including nurses, physicians and athletic trainers, will volunteer at the event. Baptist Health employees will provide care at the finish line Medical Tent and at 23 First Aid stations set up throughout the course. They'll also volunteer at various cheer zones throughout the race.
This is the fifth year that Baptist Health South Florida is the official medical sponsor of the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon. In addition to the Medical Tent and first aid stations, Baptist Health also sponsors the Baptist Health South Florida Athletes with Disabilities Division as well as the Charity Village.
"We know how hard runners work in preparation for an event like the Miami Marathon and HalfMarathon, and we feel privileged to help keep them well," said Dr. Thomas San Giovanni, co-medical director for the race and orthopedic surgeon at Miami Orthopedics & Sports MedicineInstitute. "Our team of highly trained medical personnel will be ready to help treat any participants who may get injured during the event and get them back on course."
"Wellness is a top priority at Baptist Health. We work hard to provide programs to help our employees and community stay active and feel their best," said Dr. Thinh Tran, Corporate Vice President and Chief Medical & Quality Officer for Baptist Health. "We are pleased to be a sponsor of the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, which promotes fitness and wellness in our community and beyond."
Baptist Health will also be presenting at the Health and Fitness Expo presented by the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald taking place at Mana Wynwood on January 22-23. The two-day expo is the largest health symposium in South Florida with more than 130 booths represented by just about every running shoe and attire manufacturer. Baptist Health will have photo opportunities, giveaways and free medical screenings at the event, and their experts will be on hand to provide lectures and information on nutrition and injury prevention.
