10 Years Ago- Charles Kamathi KEN) won the 62nd edition of the Cross Internacional Memorial Juan Muguerza (ESP)
10.5K by three seconds over Fabiano Joseph (TAN). Deribe Merga (ETH) was another 28 seconds back
in 3rd. Workitu Ayano (ETH) won over compatriot Meselech Melkamu also by three seconds, with Aniko
Kalovics (HUN) another 18 seconds back in 3rd.
20 Years Ago- Tumo Turbo (ETH) won the 24th edition of the Houston-Tenneco (TX/USA) Marathon over Steve Brace (WAL),
2:10:34 to 2:10:35. Leonid Shvetsov (RUS) was 3rd at 2:10:52. In the women's race, Tatyana Pozdniakova
(UKR) ran 2:31:03 to win but was later disqualified for failing a drug test, a result of the cold
medicine she had been taking. That left Mexican runners in first and second, with Adriana Fernandez
Miranda (MEX) getting the belated victory with a 2:31:59. Maria Guadalupe Loma (MEX) was second at 2:32:29
while Salina Chirchir Kimaiyo (KEN) was 3rd at 2:32:36.
30 Years Ago- Lorraine Moller (NZL) won the 5th edition of the Osaka International Womens (JPN) Marathon by more than
four minutes over Eriko Asai (JPN), 2:30:24 to 2:34:47. Rita Marchisio (ITA) was 3rd at 2:35:41 while
Laurie Crisp (CA/USA) was 4th at 2:36:24.
40 Years Ago- Carl Swift (USA) won the World Masters (CA/USA) Marathon over Ron Kurrle (USA), 2:19:04 to 2:22:44.
Suzanne Bottlik (CA/USA) was the first woman at 3:54:05. Unfortunately, this course was short.
50 Years Ago- Kipchoge Keino (KEN) won the two mile at the Los Angeles Invitational (CA/USA), 8:42.6 to 8:43.0 over
John Lawson (USA). Gaston Roelants (BEL) ran 8:47.6 for 3rd while Tracy Smith (USA) was 4th at 8:50.0.
