10 Years Ago- Catherine Ndereba (KEN) ran 2:25:05 to win the 24th edition of the Osaka International Women's
(JPN) Marathon. Japanese runners took the next four places with Kayoko Obata in 2nd (2:25:52)
and Kiyoko Shimahara in 3rd (2:26:47). Three-time winner here, Lidia Simon (ROM) was 9th with a
2:33:53.
20 Years Ago- Katrin Dorre (GER) defeated Hiromi Suzuki (JPN) to win the 14th edition of the Osaka International
Women's (JPN) Marathon, 2:26:04 to 2:26:27. Ikuyo Goto (JPN) was 3rd at 2:26:37.
30 Years Ago- Yobes Ondieki (KEN) edged Graeme Fell (CAN) by less than a second to win the 3000m at the Toronto
Star Maple Leaf Games (ON/CAN). Paul Williams (CAN) was 4th at 7:59.16.
40 Years Ago- Gary Tuttle (CA/USA) won the World Crosscountry Trials (CA/USA) 12K over Dave Babiracki (CA/USA)
by six seconds. Olympian Don Kardong (WA/USA) was another five seconds back in 3rd. Glenn Herold
(IL/USA) and Tony Sandoval (NM/USA) also made the USA team.
50 Years Ago- John Lawson (CA/USA) won the 2 mile at the Boston AA Games (MA/USA) with a 8:39.8. Tracy Smith
(CA/USA) was next at 8:42.1 while Eamon O'Reilly (DC/USA) and Barry Brown (FL/USA) followed with
8:56.0 and 8:57.4 respectively.
60 Years Ago- Jack Barry (USA) won the Shanahan Catholic Club (PA/USA) Marathon with a 2:36:09. This was the
3rd running of a series that evolved into the present day Philadelphia Marathon, held in November.
