10 Years Ago- Gert Thys (RSA) won the 54th edition of the Beppu=Oita Mainichi (JPN) Marathon with a 2:09:45.
Tomoyuki Sato (JPN) was next at 2:11:46 while Benjamin Kipchumba (KEN) was 3rd at 2:13:11.
20 Years Ago- Haile Gebreselasie (ETH) opened a comfortable gap on the field at the Sparkassen Cup (GER) 3000m,
winning in 7:30.72. Spaniards took the next two positions with Fermin Cacho Ruiz at 7:36.61 and
Enrique Molina Vergas (ESP) at 7:39.19. Dieter Baumann (GER) was 4th in 7:43.60.
30 Years Ago- John Treacy (IRL) won the Gasparilla Distance Classic (FL/USA) 15K over Jose Gomez (MEX), 42:59
to 43:12. Peter Koech (KEN) came in 3rd at 43:27. Ingrid Kristiansen (NOR) out-distanced the
women's field with a 48:01, just nine seconds shy of Grete Waitz' world record. Lisa Ondieki (AUS)
was 2nd at 49:18 and Lynn Nelson (USA) was 3rd at 49:34.
40 Years Ago- Juan-Rafael Angel Perez (CRC) won the San Blas (PUR) Half Marathon over Victor-Manuel Mora Garcia
(COL), 1:03:46 to 1:04:17. Jack Foster (NZL) was 3rd at 1:04:30 and multiple Olympic gold medalist
Lasse Viren (FIN) was 6th at 1:05:27.
50 Years Ago- Gerry Lindgren (USA) won the Seattle Invitational (WA/USA) two mile by a whopping margin of more
than 20 seconds over Doug Brown (USA), 8:39.2 to 9:02.6. Bob Price (USA) was 3rd at 9:06.8.
60 Years Ago- Olaf Lawrenz (GER) won a 3000m in Dortmund GER with a 8:18.8.
